The Hough Huskies finally got over the state championship hurdle that has tripped them up for so many years throughout their existence as a school. With a dominant 24-0 victory over West Charlotte, the Huskies emphatically stamped their claim as the "Kings of Charlotte" and earned their trip to their first-ever state championship game against Millbrook in two weeks. On offense, we had some standouts in this game on both teams, and we'll take a look at them here.

Ethan didn't have a huge statistical game in this one, but he was able to stay in control of the Husky offense and not have any turnovers or costly mistakes. He directed the offense to take advantage of some West Charlotte miscues and turnovers, and that's what good players and teams do. Ethan scored the first touchdown of the game on a short TD run and threw a touchdown pass on the 2nd touchdown drive of the game. Once it got to a two-score game, the Huskies leaned on the running game to take them over the top.

It's officially Boogie time for the Huskies, JaMarion's nickname and what his teammates and coaches call him. The sophomore has raised his game for the playoffs, and he's been a big part of the offense as a result. In this one, Morrison rushed for 132 yards on 13 carries and had a critical 3rd down catch on a wheel route out of the backfield that set up the Huskies' first touchdown of the game. Morrison also had a game-sealing 68-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter that helped send the Huskies to the state championship game.

I interviewed Hough Head Coach Deshawn Baker after the game, and he specifically shouted out the offensive line as the unit that played the best on that side of the ball in this one. Jarvis is the most heralded out of the group, and his blocking had several people asking me on the sidelines who he was in this one. Jarvis consistently moved people in the running game and was really impressive at pulling and opening holes on a variety of running plays.

The Huskies' left tackle had a tough matchup going against some talented edge rushers for the Lions, but he didn't give up any sacks and did a good job getting movement in the running game. On his teammate Boogie Morrison's touchdown run, they ran right behind him off of left tackle, and it was great blocking that helped spring him. He will be important in the state title game as well, facing a talented Millbrook defensive line.

Jayden had the only touchdown reception for the Huskies, but it was a nice route for a 13-yard TD pass from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='254550' first='Ethan' last='Royal']. Jayden created separation with speed and good footwork on the route and showed smooth hands in bringing in the catch. Jayden has had a breakout senior season, resulting in a Queen City Senior Bowl selection, as well as receiving 6 offers to play college football.

Obviously, when there's a shutout, there's not a lot of bright spots. However, Jamil ran for 95 yards on 17 carries in this one, and he did his part to try and keep the chains moving for the Lions. I think in his future, Jamil will be able to star either on offense or defense with his overall speed and athletic ability. It will be fun to see ultimately what he plays on the college level, but he's got two more years of being a major impact player in high school.

The Lions' passing game struggled for the vast majority of this game, but Rakim, I thought, looked excellent in his route running. There were some chances he had that he just missed on due to some errant passes, but he caught a couple of balls and showed some speed and agility after the catch. The Air Force commit, I think, has his best football ahead of himself at the next level.
