coming into the 2025 football season but good grief, we did not expect him to blow up the way he did from a production standpoint. Akin was a heat-seeking missile all season. He’s listed as a defensive back but this guy was always around the ball like a linebacker. He finished the year with 166 tackles, including 14.5 tackles for loss. Akin also forced three fumbles and came down with two interceptions last season. The tackle number is absolutely off the charts from the safety position. What’s scary is that Akin was just a sophomore last season. Akin was just scratching the surface on what he will ultimately be on defense.

There are not many 2028 prospects that had a more impactful breakout season than Bishop McGuinness defensive back

had last season. At this time last year, Akin was on our radar but we definitely didn’t expect him to emerge as one of the top tacklers in Class 5A. It seemed like every single week, Akin was racking up 10-15 tackles and was always around the football. Even when he wasn’t making the tackle, Akin was around the football or helping others on that side of the football. Now, all eyes are going to be on Akin to be a tackling machine once again but then adding more to his game to have even more of an impact on the defensive side of the ball. Akin helped guide the Irish to the state title game a year ago.

is the first of three Bishop McGuinness standouts on this breakdown. For those who follow high school football in Oklahoma, it’s easy to see why the Irish have several newcomers in our ranks. They made a run all the way to the 5A state championship game that quite frankly, not a lot of people saw coming. And with a solid core coming back, it will be fun to see how far they can go in 2026. With Akin, he’s a defensive back that we really like moving forward. He’s a hard-hitting athlete that made play after play for the Irish last season. We knew a little bit about him coming into the 2025 season. But after checking him out in person and seeing more film on him, we’re sold that he’s one of the hardest hitting defensive backs in the state’s 2028 class. He checks in at #30 overall.
