Carrigan excels as an edge rusher who closes to the ball quickly and can make tackles in the run game on the opposite side of the line before the ball reaches the line of scrimmage. As a run defender, he plays downhill and can lay big hits on ball carriers. Sometimes he engages offensive linemen at the second level for a split second too long, but he has the strength to shake those blocks and set up teammates for tackles.
