2027 athlete Ashton Shumard Ashton Shumard DB/QB Newcastle | 2027 OK is one of two guys that is battling for that starting quarterback spot as the Racers head into the fall. Shumard has the benefit of being with Newcastle for the last few years and has some experience at the position. But last year, the Racers mostly used Shumard in a few different spots on both sides of the ball. In fact, Shumard ended up being one of the better tacklers on the team. He finished third on the team in tackles with just over 90 tackles on the season. So even if Newcastle goes with another guy at quarterback, there is no doubt that Shumard will find a way to be an impact player for the Racers when they take the field in 2026.

Junior quarterback and defensive back Ashton Shumard Ashton Shumard DB/QB Newcastle | 2027 OK will be in a battle for the starting quarterback role this season. When we got a chance to watch the Racers in person this spring, Shumard really impressed us with his ability on both sides of the ball. Specifically at the quarterback position, Shumard had complete control of the offense and was a threat with his arm and with his legs. Shumard would then turn around and play really well in the secondary at the safety position. No matter who wins the QB battle, Shumard is going to be able to help the Racers on either side of the ball and play at a high level. And if he’s QB1, he’s going to have a lot of talent around him.
