Heying anchored a line that led the Lions to 1,622 yards and 23 touchdowns rushing last fall. They picked up 1,308 yards and 10 scores through the air. The junior has shown he can do it all in terms of strength, athleticism and agility on this level already and now will be operating with another offseason of training. Thick bodied offensive lineman from Iowa that is 6’6” and 275 pounds.  Physical with his hands and punch.  Anchors well vs power and could improve vs quickness inside.  Mirrors well going back and forth when at tackle showcasing typewriter footwork and solid raw strength.  Technically sound.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, he still has plenty of room to grow into his frame, too. By the time it’s all said and done with his high school career, Heying will likely exceed 300 pounds, and chances are he’ll still be looking to add weight.

Heying’s length allows him to take big kick steps to stay infront of pass-rushers and to get ahold of DL and get them moving in the running game. Heying will be among the top prospects in the class of 2028, and he’s already in the top three.

A mauler on the offensive line, Heying is the last person opposing defensive players want to see when in pursuit of the ball-carrier, as Heying possesses all the physical tools he needs in terms of length, size and strength to pave the way for skill position teammates behind him. There just aren’t many linemen in the state of Iowa that are his size and than dominant in the run game.

Although we don’t have a ton of tape from Declan, he is a player we are buying early stock in… and lots of it! The Des Moines Christian prospect has been on a camp tour this summer, visiting several key camps, including Iowa State, Iowa, and Kansas State, and making sure to turn heads at each of them. Declan stands out immediately with his 6’6″, 270-pound frame that includes top-tier athleticism and length. Watching a few clips, I was impressed with the footwork he displayed as he ran through drills, as well as his ability to maintain bend in his hips to keep his pad level consistent. Definitely someone to keep a close eye on in the upcoming months!
