of Marion just announced his pledge to Illinois State. An FCS recruit with Division I offers from South Dakota, San Diego State, Northern Iowa and North Dakota, Dreyer is a prototypically-sized defensive lineman, already standing at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Dreyer has the physical makeup of a defensive end or, potentially, a three-tech defensive tackle in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Choosing the reigning national runners-up, Dreyer has a chance to develop and be a part of one of the better defenses in the FCS.
Playing just a portion of the season and finishing wtih 12 tackles, including seven TFLs and four sacks, Dreyer is a physically dominant, quick pass-rusher that won’t be denied when he gets his eyes on the quarterback. Smart passers will duck and go down with ease when Dreyer sets his aim, because if not, they’re going to be hit as hard as they have all season.

is a player with massive upside and seems to be only starting to scratch the surface. Elijah ended his junior season with 12 tackles, seven TFLs, and 4.5 sacks. Dreyer impressed at defensive end with his ability to be a nuisance to opposing QBs and contain the edge when defending the run. He plays with good pop in his hands, which helps him keep blockers off of him and stay free to chase down the ball carriers. He closes on the ball very well and is an effective tackler once he reaches the ball carrier. Dreyer could also receive some looks on offense, where he is a key blocker on the offensive line.

Dreyer took the next step in his developmental journey in style. As a sophomore in 2024, he produced 16.5 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. On his 10th-grade highlight video, Dreyer illustrates how he delivers. Already a key contributor, Dreyer is a kid with plenty of room to grow before reaching his potential. His frame can add mass without him sacrificing agility and athleticism, and his technique can be sharpened. Dreyer looks seasoned beyond his years in terms of knowing his assignments. Operating within the framework of the Wolves’ scheme, he sets the edge and plays his lane with discipline. Dreyer’s strength and active hands help him separate from blocks and quickness prevents offensive linemen from locking him up most times, anyway. Dreyer is a legit breakout candidate for 2025.
