In case you missed it, you can check out our Preseason Rankings RIGHT HERE. Overview (Class 4A Preseason Ranking: #2) One of the more dominant teams in Class 4A over the last five years has been the Tuttle Tigers. They come into 2021 and they have the same expectations of contending for the district and ultimately a state championship. They’re two years removed from winning a state championship in 2018 and the Tigers enter this season with those same championship aspirations. Tuttle is ranked #2 in our 4A preseason rankings with the only team ahead of them being district foe Cushing. We’ll have more on that potential 1 VS 2 showdown in "Games To Watch". The Tigers bring back 16 starters from last year’s quarterfinalist finish. 8 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense will give Tuttle one of the more experienced teams in 4A football this fall. The Tigers were near the top of 4A all of last season. They lost a weird week ten game to Blanchard where they were shut out 7-0. Not an ideal way to go into the playoffs. However, they would beat Chickasha followed by Newcastle before squaring off with Wagoner in the quarterfinals. They would give the eventual state champions their closest game with Wagoner prevailing 21-14. Tuttle has to feel like they let one get away there as they led 14-7 with less than two minutes in the game. The Bulldogs scored twice in the final 90 seconds or so to escape in the quarterfinals. The Tigers had to spend this offseason what could have been if they would have held on in the final two minutes. However, there is no doubt that they have used that as motivation this offseason, which is bad news for the rest of Class 4A in 2021.
2020 Results (10-2 Record - Lost In 4A Quarterfinals) Aug. 28 - Beat Sulphur 28-7 Sept. 4 - Beat Plainview 23-12 Sept. 11 - Beat Newcastle 24-21 Sept. 25 - Beat Cushing 42-21 Oct. 2 - Beat Tecumseh 40-7 Oct. 9 - Beat Harrah 35-6 Oct. 15 - Game VS Classen SAS Cancelled Oct. 23 - Beat Ada 14-0 Oct. 30 - Beat John Marshall 27-20 Nov. 6 - Lost To Blanchard 7-0 1st Round - Beat Chickasha 42-14 2nd Round - Beat Newcastle 31-21 Quarterfinals - Lost To Wagoner 21-14
Players To Watch Mason Dennis - 2023 Quarterback The Tigers didn’t have the most consistent season from the quarterback position in 2020 but that shouldn’t be the case this fall as Mason Dennis takes over as signal caller for Tuttle. And the one thing that Dennis, who doesn’t have as much experience as other 4A QB’s, will have is a wealth of talent around him at the skill positions. Tuttle brings back nearly all of their skill players. You’re going to find out about a couple of them below. That should take some of the pressure off of Dennis and allow him to just run the offense and get the ball to those special talents. Mason Stokes - 2022 Wide Receiver The Mason to Mason connection is going to be one of the best 1-2 punches in 4A football this fall. Senior wide receiver Mason Stokes was arguably Tuttle’s best wide receiver last season and he’s back for more this fall. At 6’3, Stokes gives the Tuttle a legit deep threat and a player that can be a home run threat in this very balanced Tiger offense. The Tigers don’t have a superstar on either side of the ball but they have a ton of experienced and talented players that will allow them to put up a lot of points. Stokes should be one of the top receivers in 4A football this fall. [player_tooltip player_id="54485" first="Tyler" last="Woodson"] - 2023 Running Back The final player in our Players To Watch feature is yet another weapon on the offensive side of the ball. Running back [player_tooltip player_id="54485" first="Tyler" last="Woodson"] is a 2023 prospect who enjoyed a breakout season in 2020. Woodson isn’t the biggest running back prospect but that doesn’t matter as he can manage the workload inn a big way. One of his biggest games of the year in 2020 was against Cushing and that Cushing match-up in 2021 will be arguably the biggest game of Tuttle’s season. Woodson also has the ability to be a threat out of the backfield as a wide receiver. More Names Parrish Terry - 2022 Offensive/Defensive Lineman [player_tooltip player_id="158068" first="Tylor" last="McCarthey"] - 2022 Tight End
Notable After going 6-5 in 2017 and being bounced in the first round, the Tigers have been anything but average in Class 4A. In the last three years since that average record, Tuttle has gone a combined 35-4 in the last three seasons with at least ten wins in each year. That also includes an undefeated run to the 2018 state championship game. In fact, no other team in Class 4A has as good of a record as the Tigers in the last three seasons. Poteau and Wagoner are knocking on the door as the other champions during that span and are close to that record but the Tigers are the best of the best. We mentioned earlier that the Tigers coming into this season remind us of that championship team from 2018 with plenty of experience returning and not the typical star power from a state championship team. Don’t be surprised if the Tigers win at least ten more games and make a deep run into the playoffs.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch Aug. 27 - AT Sulphur Sept. 3 - Plainview - After opening the season in week zero on the road against Sulphur, they’ll take on one of Sulphur’s biggest rivals in Plainview. It will be the season opener for Tuttle and one of the best non-district games in Class 4A this year. Plainview is a lot like Tuttle and this will be a great gauge of where each team is at coming into the season. Plainview brings back the majority of their starters and have recent championship game experience. Both teams are planning on 2021 being their year and this is going to give us a great idea of how serious we should take each team in their respective class. Sept. 10 - Newcastle Sept. 24 - AT Cushing - It has to be considered one of the biggest games in 4A football this year. It’s definitely a big one early on in the season. As mentioned in our Cushing preview, this one is going to be huge. Cushing is #1 and Tuttle is #2 in our preseason rankings. If the rankings are played out, we’ll see #1 taking on #2 to open up the district season. Tuttle will know where they’re at as a team after a tough non-district schedule. They also benefit from playing in week zero, week one and week two and having week three to rest up before a huge road test against Cushing. Oct. 1 - AT Tecumseh Oct. 8 - Harrah Oct. 14 - Classen SAS Oct. 22 - AT Ada Oct. 29 - AT John Marshall Nov. 5 - Blanchard
Championship History 3 State Championships 2018 - Beat Bethany 35-28 2005 - Beat Cascia Hall 35-14 2001 - Beat Seminole 16-10
