About Mateo

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

First off, football is a team sport and my team/friendships, I prioritize. My gameplay consists of leverage, positioning, speed, and cuts. Running back wise, three sports help me stay explosive on my feet as I utilize my speed and quick cuts. When playing linebacker, wrestling helps me tackle because I understand leverage, Lacrosse helps me with positioning because I slide when playing D-pole.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Staying focused, healthy, motivated for my future, putting family and grades first and always being a good friend to others.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Broadcasting events: NDP Live, Catholic Youth Group Leader, Young Life.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Community hours with NDP or youth camps have made me realize that we are all in it together and we need to help each other in this life. We are here for service to others whether it be doing hours for volunteering, or being a leader at youth camps, or a leader amongst teammates and friends. Good examples and service to others is what is important in this life.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I moved to a new state my sophomore year and it was tough because I left all of my friends with whom I played with for years (football, wrestling, soccer, baseball). I came home from Young Life camp and got on a plane hours later to start a new school in AZ. It was a tough transition and it took some time to make my life long friends. I have no regrets and I am so happy with this decision.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for the place where I feel at home, where God has intended for me to be and a place where I will continue my journey to learn, to be a good teammate, friend, and football player.

2026 Running Back Mateo Gigena Mateo Gigena Mateo Gigena 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB/LB/LB Notre Dame Prep | 2026 AZ looks to be the main workhorse for this rushing attack for the Saints. His junior season consisted of 20 carries for 146 rushing yards, averaging about 7.3 yards per carry, and 1 rushing TD. Gigena’s style is definitely to be that bruising runner that wears down a defense over the course of a game. He has a tall frame, but he knows how to get low and powerful in the face of contact. He also demonstrates excellent toughness and edge that you like to see at the position, especially when he is pass blocking. He can get physical and nasty when blocking, slamming his opponents on the turf. With tons of senior talent leaving from last season, look for Gigena to take the reigns of the lead back.
