Meyer is the leading passer in all of 5A in general, throwing for over 3,400 yards and 39 TD’s this season with just 5 INT’s. No surprise here, as I’ve been raving about Meyer for over a year now as all the kid continues to do is light up defenses. He’s got momentum rolling into this week as well, as he’s fresh off a 423 yard 4 TD performance from a week ago. Cool, composed gunslinger with the ability to hit all 3 levels of throws and make those off-platform throws as well.

He had a truly standout receiver last year who’s already producing on national TV on Saturdays, so after losing him I was curious to see what Colten would look like running the show this fall. Somehow, he’s on pace for even more touchdown passes than last season, and at some point, the production just can’t be ignored. Colten’s tape plays like a point guard running a fast break for four quarters — tempo, rhythm, and constant pressure on the defense to tackle in space. The numbers back it up with multiple 300‑yard nights, including a 411-yard, five-touchdown performance where he completed 80% of his passes. Through eight games, he’s completed nearly 71% of his throws for over 2,300 yards and 25 touchdowns. When teams start jumping bubbles and quick outs, he’s comfortable layering corners and seams behind flat defenders, and he’ll hang in to take a shot if that’s what the concept needs. There’s toughness here too: he’ll reset in the pocket under heat and still deliver something on‑target. It’s sustainable production because it’s built on rhythm and preparation, not sandlot plays to bail him out.

Colten Meyer Colten Meyer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Marana | 2026 State AZ plays the game with a calmness you can’t teach. He’s steady in the pocket, never rushing his reads, and makes smart, on-time throws with a smooth release that gives the offense a real sense of rhythm. What stands out is how easily he can shift gears — one moment he’s managing the drive, the next he’s ripping a 50-yard shot downfield that hits his guy in stride. He’s accurate at all levels and isn’t afraid to test tight windows. That ability to keep his cool while still taking calculated deep shots gives Marana a big-time boost. And beyond the arm talent, he brings real leadership to the field — the kind of presence that keeps everyone steady, even when the game gets chaotic.

Meyer has continued to take big leaps each year and even though he loses one of the best threats in the state (Roebuck) to graduation, I still think Meyer holds all the potential to once again take that leap. I really like his poise, calmness, and overall demeanor in the pocket as he’ll sit back calm and collected. He does a great job going through progression and throwing with timing- flashing a smooth and effortless release. He throws that vertical 3-ball well on verts and posts where he showcases good arm strength by letting it fly 50+ yards on the money. He shows the ability to hit those intermediate throws with velocity or finesse as well as he had a handful of impressive tight window throws on film. Expecting big things from Meyer this fall.

Colten Meyer Colten Meyer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Marana | 2026 State AZ made a statement during his 2024 season at Marana, leading the Tigers to an impressive 10-1 record and the No. 1 seed in the Open Division playoffs. Meyer got off to a red-hot start, earning Player of the Week honors after a jaw-dropping performance in Marana’s 48-0 win over Canyon del Oro. He threw for 470 yards, completing an unreal 30 of 34 passes with three touchdowns. Meyer kept the fireworks coming with standout games like the 362-yard, three-touchdown performance against Tucson High in a 56-7 rout. His big arm and good decision-making consistently put the team in positions to win, and they just kept winning. By the time the season ended, Meyer had solidified himself as one of Arizona’s top 2026 QBs, racking up 3,687 passing yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 74% of his passes. Even though Marana’s playoff run ended earlier than hoped, Meyer hit a career milestone with over 5,000 passing yards, showing why he’s one of the state’s most exciting young stars.
