The Michigan College Showcase
On June 3rd, Curtis Blackwell and Sound Mind Sound Body organized one of the more notable recruiting camps in the Midwest at Ferris State. The showcase was attended by many notable head coaches including PJ Fleck, Mel Tucker, Jim Harbaugh, and Jim McElwain. In total, 70 different college staffs showed up to the event to evaluate some of the top Michigan prospects as well as recruits from other states. One of the more notable performances from this camp came from Semaj Morgan (2023). Prior to attending this camp, Morgan had early offers from Ole Miss and Bowling Green. After his stellar performance, he now has added offers from Michigan, Missouri, Northern Illinois, and Central Michigan. He shows great athleticism as a receiver and has great hands. His recruiting stock most certainly will continue to rise into the fall season as he will have an increased role for a stacked West Bloomfield team. Another attendee who has risen his recruiting stock drastically from the camp is Aaron Alexander Aaron Alexander 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Belleville | 2022 State MI (2022). Coaches were impressed with his potential at the linebacker position and he has since added an offer from Michigan. Look for Alexander to garner more offers throughout the summer. Other notable prospects in attendance that stood out who didn’t really get a lot of recruiting attention before the camp include Eryx Daugherty (2023), Cameron Dyson Cameron Dyson 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Belleville | 2022 State MI (2022), and Kaden Stranhorn (2025).
Notable Commitments
With the dead period being lifted on June 1st, more recruits in the class of 2022 are now starting to commit to schools now that they are having in-person contact with coaches. The most noteworthy commitment was from Portage Central’s Cross Watson Cross Watson 6'5" | 270 lbs | OL Portage Central | 2022 State MI . A 6’5 offensive lineman, Watson is a high academic kid who was recruited by mainly G5 schools and committed four days after visiting Purdue. Other commitments include Jordan Kwiatkowski Jordan Kwiatkowski 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Adlai Stevenson | 2022 State MI and Jordan Ramsey Jordan Ramsey 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Adlai Stevenson | 2022 State MI choosing Central Michigan, Tag Bonnema to Western Michigan, and Malachi Clark Malachi Clark 6'2" | 285 lbs | DL Roseville | 2022 State MI to Miami (OH).
Notable Offers
So far in the month of June, many Michigan prospects have been receiving offers. In the first three days of June, over 63 offers were given out to Michigan players! Quite possibly the hottest recruit for Michigan in the class of 2024 who has made the most out of camp season is Jacob Oden Jacob Oden 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Harper Woods | 2024 State MI . I have covered Oden before in a previous article and am very high on him. He could easily be one of the top DB recruits in his class when it is all said and done. More colleges are adding to what was an already impressive offer list going into June for a ’24 recruit. Thus far this month, Oden has added offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, and West Virginia bringing his offer list to 13. Another noteworthy recruit who has shown his ability to be an elite prospect in the state of Michigan is Amare Snowden (’23). Like Jacob Oden Jacob Oden 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Harper Woods | 2024 State MI , Snowden received an offer from Notre Dame after camping there. He has additionally added offers from West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Western Michigan. Snowden has great size at 6’4 and has the ability to play at multiple positions. Other offers that I want to highlight include offers from Florida State and LSU for Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI (’23), Notre Dame offer for CJ Carr (’24), Tennessee offers for multiple prospects including Jameel Croft (’23), Brandon Davis Swain (’24), Masai Reddick Masai Reddick 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Cass Tech | 2022 State MI (’22), and Nick Marsh (’24), and Levi Harber Levi Harber 6'5" | 250 lbs | OL Montrose | 2022 State MI (’22) being offered by Vanderbilt.
Looking Ahead to the Rest of June
There are still plenty of recruiting events for the second half of June that are important to be aware of. First, Rising Stars Academy has just started a bus tour that will take Michigan HS players to multiple colleges for camps and visits. The first stop was June 12th at Michigan State and the tour will conclude at Penn State. Other stops include Louisville, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Vanderbilt. So far, the tour has been a success for a lot of these players as 10 prospects got offered from Marshall, which was one of the stops. Next, Curtis Blackwell is bringing some of the top talent from Michigan to Tennessee on June 16th for the Tennessee State mega camp whose head coach is Eddie George. This camp is shaping up to be a huge camp in terms of colleges in attendance as coaches from schools like Miami (FL), Michigan, Florida, TCU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. It will be interesting to see which Michigan prospects will be offered by some of these schools. Look out for an article recapping this event. Finally, as we enter the second half of June, look for more recruits to take unofficial and official visits and for a good amount of players to commit to schools come the end of June and into early July after wrapping up visits.
