Another Liberty District battle for me tomorrow as the Herndon Hornets face the Marshall Statesmen in a possible playoff preview matchup. Both teams currently sit at 6-2 and are currently holding the 4th and 6th district playoff spots in Region 6D. Looking forward to covering this game, here are a few players to watch below:

I am expecting [player_tooltip player_id='1231251' first='Brayden' last='Humpherys'] to be the best player on the field tomorrow win or loss. The Division 1 prospect is having a stellar senior season both at safety and at receiver. I like when the Hornets use him on offense more, he is dynamic with the ball in his hands. I would anticipate a few short quick passes to him early so Herndon can avoid Marshall's pass rush. If Callow can find him early this contest will go a long way. Humpherys is a division 1 football player at free safety in my opinion and he just picked up an offer from Marist College. There should be more offers coming as the season approaches its end, he is a FBS level talent.

Wrote about Lebkisher in my game ball piece last week when he gashed Wakefield for 211 rushing yards. He seems to be humming at the right time for the Statesmen, I would expect the Hornets to be game-planning to contain him first before anyone else. He has good vision and is a north/south type of back, approaching 1,000 rushing on the year.

Defensively he is one of their leaders too at outside linebacker, the young man delivers a blow on each tackle. Expect his name to be called a lot tomorrow evening, he is a difference maker on both ends.

Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1231526' first='Johnny' last='Callow'] really seems to be settling in as the Hornets approach postseason play. The signal caller has done a nice job taking care of the football and using both his arm and his legs to his advantage. One of my game ball recipients two weeks ago, Callow threw for three touchdowns and had a couple of nice runs too. Seems to this scout's view that when Callow runs just a little bit the Hornets offense becomes more explosive. It will be interesting to see how Marshall's defense handle this dual threat quarterback.

Defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1157493' first='Peyton' last='Lubbe'] will be important tomorrow with all the weapons Herndon has on offense. The senior is having an all-district type of season at corner, he looks like he is well coached and doesn't error much either. A good tackler to boot, Lubbe's footwork and back pedal are very impressive. When the Statesmen do throw on offense (which may be 4/5 times a game) Lubbe is usually their primary target.

I love this kid's first step off the line when he is at defensive end, he is so quick and has great movement in his shoulders. He must be a pain to block for an offensive linemen he really does have a plethora of pass rushing moves. When I watched Marshall earlier this year against Madison, it became clearer that if the defensive linemen for the Warhawks were not getting any penetration then the Statesmen would run all over them. If you recall Madison after a couple of series started to get home, with playmakers like [player_tooltip player_id='1231485' first='Caden' last='Green'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1231282' first='Jackson' last='Ambruzs'] causing havoc. I see a similar type of format playing out tomorrow with Beach being front and center. If he is winning off the ball early, the more opportunities it should create for Herndon's defense.

Costello is one tough young man for Coach Bachman's squad, at running back, safety and on special teams he is everywhere! He is 5'10 and 185 lbs. of pure muscle, Costello has been on a roll these few weeks in all three phases. I can see why a number of division 3 schools are interested.

[player_tooltip player_id='1231240' first='Mohamed' last='Ali Elmrabet'] has close to 100 tackles and the Statemen still have two games to play. While that number is impressive what stands out more to me is that he his making these tackles along the defensive line. Unofficially at 85 tackles Elmrabet is 6'2 with a long reach, he is going to be a problem tomorrow night in Falls Church.
