Dobson is a high-level lab-built defensive back who plays more safety at the high school level, but is probably a college corner, if his speed checks out. He put on some weight this offseason, and his length, speed, and ball skills allow him to match up with all sorts of receivers. If he continues to develop, he’s a future Power Four defensive back.

One of several 2028 defensive backs to get off to a hot start on the recruiting trail, Dobson’s measurables are off the charts. He’s one of the longest corners you’ll see at the high school level, and with the ability to play out wide, at either safety position, or in the slot, he fits any team or scheme. As a sophomore, his production more than matched his potential, as he was one of the best players on the field on both defense and special teams.

My colleague Will Helms wrote about Zion recently in late April, and he thought Zion was a player who could really move up our rankings. Will was right in his assessment because in early June, Zion received his first offer from Wake Forest. So, not only did Zion move into our Top 50, but he’s also moved on to college football program radars! Zion’s positional versatility in the secondary is a major plus, as well as his length and overall speed as a prospect. Zion is also off to a great start in the classroom with a 4.31 GPA! Sporting a 7-foot wingspan per his Twitter/X profile, that will allow him to break up a lot of passes in the air – there’s a lot to like about this young man!

Dobson moved to the rankings from the watchlist as soon as I saw his full highlight tape. I’m glad I was able to see his tape early enough to get out ahead of the offers, as Wake Forest recently stepped in to offer the varsity starter with the ability to play both safety and corner. He’s physical, and I think he may have the hips and footwork to stick outside at corner long-term. Either way, he’s a high-upside, talented rising sophomore.

I got around to Dobson’s film later than some of the other defensive backs in this class, but I’m glad I finally watched it. I’m a fan of a guy who can play safety or corner and flashed both as a cover guy and a run-stuffing box safety. His frame can hold more weight and his physicality will be even more helpful when he fills out. Right now, he’s a candidate to move way up our rankings.
