2024 Team Preview: Mountain Pointe Pride Offense

We will resume in the 6A Central Division with the Mountain Pointe Pride offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This Mountain Pointe team is ready to make a statement in 2024 led by their head coach, Eric Lauer.&nbsp;After coming off a 6-5 campaign and making a 6A postseason appearance last season, the bar is set high for this team to make a deep run in 6A this year for the title. With how loaded the offensive backfield was last year with Christian Clark and Randle Parker, Knorr was not needed as heavily to complete throws downfield. Still managing to have three 2+ passing TD games in 2023, 2024 will be a huge opportunity for the senior to show off what he has got. Knorr displays great fundamentals at the position as well as excellent deep ball accuracy, getting the ball to his receivers with great timing in stride. The recent San Diego State commit can play both sides of the ball extremely well at the defensive back or the wide receiver position. This Mountain Pointe team will be hoping for more explosive plays in the pass game, particularly with Shumate. He can soar downfield in a hurry and shows off excellent deep-ball catching ability. He has good hands as well as very good physicality averaging about 12 yards per reception last season. With the recent departures in the backfield previously mentioned, he should have no problem getting the workload early out of the backfield. Racking over 200 carries, 1,769 yards, and 18 rushing TDs at Captain Shreve High School last season, his senior year will be fun to watch if he can replicate these numbers. His elusiveness and "home-run" speed ability out of the backfield with make this run game incredibly dynamic. The 6'7 junior lineman is easily one of the tallest linemen in the state. Last year, he primarily played defensive end and received 6A Central All-Region honorable mention as a sophomore. Although with him putting on more size before the season, he will definitely be an anchor man for the Pride on the offensive line. Johnson played mostly offensive guard last season and was a pancaking machine. His toughness and physicality on the interior of this offensive line will be a great asset with his 6'3, 265lbs frame. His ability to push defensive tackles downfield and finish with great leg drive will make this run game hard to stop. Weighing around 285 lbs, he mostly played right tackle for the Pride last season. Even so, he demonstrates versatility as a lineman, able to fill in at any position in a pinch. With excellent agility and lateral movement, he will hold up well on the outside to allow this team's playmakers to get downfield.
