already looks like a DB who gets it. A lot of young defensive backs can survive off being the best athlete on the field and figure the rest out later. Smith doesn’t feel like that kind of player. There’s real discipline to how he moves. His feet stay calm, he doesn’t waste much motion, and he usually stays in phase without getting caught off guard if the route starts stretching downfield. That’s where a lot of younger corners get exposed, but he looks comfortable there. The length jumps out too. He can crowd throwing windows and make life tougher on receivers when the ball gets there. And when quarterbacks test him, he looks comfortable playing the ball instead of just getting in the way. The next step is pretty straightforward: keep getting stronger. That’ll help him when receivers try to get physical, and it’ll help him become even more reliable against the run. But the important part is already there. Smith doesn’t look like a kid just guessing through reps. He looks like someone who understands the job.

Smith is an outstanding 6’1” 170 lb. CB that plays with speed and confidence to be an impact player in the Desert Mountain defense. Covers ground with ease and has the range to stay in phase on vertical routes, using his speed to limit separation and stay attached through the route. His route recognition skills and ability to run with receivers allows him to be effective in both man or zone concepts and trusted on the outside. Physical and reliable tackler that initiates contact with leverage, forward momentum, and toughness when coming downhill in run support or making a tackle after the catch. First offered by NAU last summer, he just picked up his first FBS offer from Nevada. Enters the rankings at #79 overall but expect him to continue to rise.

is the kind of defensive back who makes life miserable for receivers without ever needing a spotlight moment. His length jumps off the field — long frame, long arms, active hands — and he uses all of it to smother space and throw off timing. He mirrored routes cleanly, stayed patient through breaks, and gave his defensive line extra time to cause problems in the backfield. Smith played championship‑level football in this one: disciplined at the line, sticky underneath, and always in phase downfield. In a game where Desert Mountain’s defense forced Canyon View into tight, uncomfortable windows all night, Smith’s consistency and coverage control were a big part of why.

Smith is one of those DBs who already plays like he’s been doing this a long time. Technically, he’s as sound as they come at this age — smooth footwork, efficient in coverage, and rarely out of position. He’s got the kind of length that makes life tough on receivers, especially in contested catch situations, and he pairs it with just enough quickness to stay in phase through the route. Physically, he checks a lot of boxes. He’s got really good agility, can elevate when he needs to, and has a pair of hands that look more wide receiver than DB. Whether he’s going up to high-point a ball or securing a pick off a tipped pass, he handles it with confidence and control. His ball skills definitely pop. There’s still room for him to grow, literally. Adding a bit more weight and physical strength will help him hold up even better in press coverage and against the run. That added physicality could really round out his game and make him a more complete defensive back. But even right now, Smith shows flashes of a high-level prospect — the kind of guy who makes you double-check the roster to confirm he’s not actually a senior.

is a player who has the physical tools to be a lockdown corner. With really long strides, he has some decent speed to try and track down wideouts on the outside. I thought he did a great job tracking his receiver and not trying to peek at the quarterback too early, showing good eye discipline. He has quick feet that can get him out of a jam when he needs them to. Smith can occasionally wait too long to open his hips and leave his backpedal. Against some great competition that he’ll face on a daily basis at Desert Mountain, I have no doubt he’ll quickly develop a good sense of his own speed and its limitations. If he’s able to add some weight onto his frame, that will only enhance how physical a player he already is. Smith certainly raised his stock out there at the PRZ Arizona combine.
