is a dynamic contributor for Glenville. Edwards displays great ball skills on defense and has the speed to take interceptions to the house when he undercuts routes. When the ball is in the air, he snatches it with his hands. Very physical in coverage with great use-of-hands. Tough cover corner. Also has good closing speed v. The run and can deliver big hits. Picked up an offer from USF.
The 2028 class is still in its early stages, but Jaylen has solidified himself as one of the top defenders. His athleticism stands out immediately. He’s instinctual in zone coverage and can make a play on the ball. He’s got a good idea of space and can manipulate quarterbacks into throwing bad passes in his direction. He is an electric kick returner who can read blocks and explode. Edwards will be one to watch in 2025.
Edwards put together a great season on film that rewarded him the top DB spot in our initial 2028 rankings. He can play both inside and out, but he worked primarily from the inside. He has great speed and can match with anyone he goes against. He has good hands and can take away leverage well. He attacks the ball and found himself with multiple interceptions as a freshman. Over the seasons, I see himself getting targeted less and will look to become a great defensive back nationally.
Edwards is probably the best DB I watched at AYF this past week. Although being one of the shorter players Edwards is an elite athlete and a lockdown corner and outplays WR with height every time. One of my favorite players I watched at practice. Can play great at receiver as well but you cant watch him play corner and not see that he’s a natural there. He’s another Ohio kid among others that dominated from what I watched.
