When a player gets playing time as a defensive skill player as a freshman at a talent rich program like Glenville you know he has the goods. Shephard definitely fits the description as a cornerback for the Tarblooders. His fluidity and ability to run make him a strong in off the ball man defense. What really separates him for is his ability to break on the throw. He has strong instincts and is explosive out of his break. When he gets to the ball he’s not just looking to play the ball he’s looking to separate man from ball. Shephard also adds value in the special teams return and coverage games.

Dontez Shepherd had a great month of May. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Class of 2029 corner is tough as nails. Very physical with great use-of-hands, times the ball well for pass breakups, comes out of a backpedal effectively and wraps up. Shepherd earned offers from Pittsburgh, Kent State, Miami-Ohio, and Arizona State over the month of May. Has huge upside. Growth will determine his recruiting.
