One of our most popular features from last year is BACK! We are returning the “Freshman Friday” series to help jumpstart your 2027 recruiting boards.
Here are my four featured players for the second week of Freshman Friday! Check them out ASAP!!
Stevie caught my attention big time after last week’s Warren Academy showcase. The Jr. Jay’s freshman immediately passes the eye test, standing at 6’6″ and 260 pounds with a lengthy frame. Grabowski certainly has all the tools to develop into an elite prospect in the upcoming years. He’s already seen varsity time and held his own against some great defensive ends in Class A. Watch for Stevie to make a huge jump in 2024.
Quentin will be a cornerstone player for the upstart Griffins in the upcoming years. Malone is a player whom Gretna East coaches were excited to see get on the field before the season started. Quentin definitely delivered on those expectations with several flashes of the high-caliber player he can be. Depth at RB limited his carries, but when he did get the ball, Quentin ran with toughness and showed nice twitch to make defenders miss. Malone saw a majority of his varsity time come at outside linebacker, where he displayed his physical, aggressive play style. He attacks the ball very well and is tireless in his pursuit. Tackles with technique. We’ll see what year 2 has in store for Quentin!

After a high-flying freshman season, Red Cloud’s Wyatt Frey Wyatt Frey 6’4″ | 205 lbs | QB Lawrence-Nelson / Frey Family Academy | 2027 State NE made a case for the top returning QB in 6-man football. Wyatt finished his freshman season completing 61% of his passes for 1,546 yards and threw 31 touchdowns. Wyatt has a prototypical QB size of 6’4″ and 205 pounds with a strong arm that can deliver the ball to all levels of the field. Frey does an excellent job standing tall in the pocket while he moves through his progressions, even when facing pressure. Wyatt wasn’t asked to run or do a lot with his legs, but he certainly showed that he can tuck the ball and run if he needs to (3 rushing touchdowns). Wyatt had some really nice throws where he was able to throw with nice touch and put it right where his receiver needs it. Big things coming for Wyatt in 2024!

Here is a player I am very excited to see more of at the varsity level. As an eighth grader going through the Home Grown Movement, Colton Tucker Colton Tucker 6’0″ | 210 lbs | LB Lincoln East | 2027 State NE immediately caught our attention. My first reaction from watching Colton’s tape is that he is all GO, 100% of the time. He plays the game with great intensity, which you love to see coming from your MIKE linebacker. Colton is a very reactive player who can crash downhill in a flash when he keys to run or flips his hips to transition into coverage when he reads pass. Tucker is smart with his gap play and always seemed to be in a prime position to make a stop on nearly every down. Flows to the ball very well with good closing speed. You can see Colton’s wrestling background shine through with his physicality and toughness on the field.
