Over the next several months, we will identify some of the Garden State’s best 2023 football prospects. The list will contain include Division I, Division II, and Division III prospects. Some of these players played anywhere from four to nine games this season because of COVID-19.Today, we look at five promising 2023 quarterback prospects.
Austin Frattura | 6-1 170 | Sparta HS
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12884463/5fbd408e6e8c4a0ec4c06570
Frattura completed 116-out-of-180 passes for 1,361 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions during his sophomore year season. There’s a lot to love about his highlights. His ability to sell the pump fake and look off safeties to complete passes down the seam or sidelines is impressive. He’s also a true dual-threat quarterback with excellent mobility and the ability to make plays with his legs. He has a quick release that is really noticeable on his deep passes.
Frattura holds an offer from Pitt.
Michael Miller | 6-3 200 | Sommerville HS
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6160144/5fa8c5d60c54df0af46c396d
Miller completed 96-out-of-155 passes for 1,602 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions in seven games this past season. He also rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. I like the fact that he’s not afraid to work in the middle of the field with his passes. He really works the slant, post, seam, and dig routes in his highlights.
Jayden Young | 6-3 160 | St. Thomas Aquinas HS
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12870591/5f970b684797420914b41290
In seven games during this past season, Young passed for 1,487 yards. He completed 90-out-of-180 passes, threw 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Young’s ability to escape the pass rush and extend plays stands out on his highlights. He gets a lot of air under his deep passes down the sideline. Young will have to work on his arm strength and accuracy.
Matthew Yascko | 5-10 170 | Edison HS
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/1673767/5fbad5e3a018da03b0eb4d1a
During the 2020 season, Yascko completed 88-out-of-155 passes for 1,129 yards and three interceptions. On the ground, Yasco rushed 41 times for 205 yards and one touchdown. I love the way he quickly throws darts across the middle of the field. He isn’t afraid to put the football in the air and give his receivers a chance to make plays. He’ll need to work more on his accuracy.
Marco Lainez Marco Lainez 6'3" | 225 lbs | QB The Hun School | 2023 State NJ III | 6-3 220 | Hun School
Hudl profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9825555/5faafd57bd6bc9094ca48a7e
Lainez could only play in four games this season because of COVID-19. In those four games, he proved to be an efficient passer. I am impressed with how quickly he sets up in the pocket and scans the field to look for the open man. Lainez completed 60-out-of-81 passes for 1,098 yards, ten touchdowns, and three interceptions. He’s not prone to making mistakes when passing the football. Lainez completed 75% of his passes during the 2020 season. He has an offer from both Massachusetts and Princeton.
Luke Kurzum | 6-2 195 | Caldwell
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/14632120/601884c9a6815402a8787684
Kurzum was fortunate to play in nine games this season. In those contests, Kurzum completed 73-out-of-116 passes for 1,027 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also added 188 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. In his highlights, Kurzum did most of his damage between the hashes. I think he does a good job of quickly finding the open receiver. I’d love to see how his arm strength looks like when throwing an out-route from the pocket.
