The Dexter offense has probably been the best, or at least nearly the best all season long. Regularly hanging 40 or 50 points and putting running clocks on teams. Owen is a major part of what the Dreadnaughts like to do. He’s a big and nasty lineman that can flat out take a defender out of the play. On running downs, he gets under the defenders pads and completely controls them. On passing sets, he is able to absorb strong bull rushes, or counter a defender with speed. Owen has continued to grow and evolve at the tackle position, and I love his high ceiling. So does Iowa State, clearly!

It feels like in this superb offensive line class, Owen gets unfairly overlooked. Winder possesses a ton of Power-4 offers and has had a stellar career so far, likely culminating in his best season yet this fall. At his size and skill, he’s going to make someone extremely happy.
Winder is another well rounded lineman who can pass block with smooth sets and strong hands, or be an absolute grinder in the run game, physically dominating his assignment. The moment he gets into a college facility and gets on their regimen, it will likely open a whole new door for his development.

The case for Owen:
- Great success against good competition
- Very successful against good power rushers
- Nearly the best all-around size for position in class
- Highly-touted B1G 10 Prospect
Owen is still probably going to be ranked #5 in position when I release the next rankings update. I love his skillset, but he’s just a tad behind the others in the class in my opinion.

I like what I saw from Owen, but I also understand why he’s a MAC prospect and not a B1G/SEC prospect. While he has some no-doubt D1 traits, there are a few things holding him back from being that elite prospect.
First off, the things I like. Once Owen gets his hands on you, good luck. I liked his power and tenacity quite a bit as long as he put some real intention into the play. During the two drives that I watched, most plays went opposite of Owen, so it was a little difficult to judge his run blocking. All in all, I thought Owen had good footwork and overall technique.
Now, for things to improve upon. Like Cameron, Owen is not the most agile tackle. Sometimes, he got beat off the edge, as he went up against someone with superior explosiveness and agility. Second, I didn’t love the effort Owen gave on a few occasions. There was one instance in particular where I thought he gave very poor effort on a screen pass. There’s a chance he isn’t meant to play a key role on that play, but I definitely thought he could have made an impact block if he gave 100% effort. On a few other occasions, Owen gave up a little before the whistle. Lastly, his all-around footwork and balance aren’t quite up to par with a Power 4 prospect.
It’s obvious that Owen is a talented player, and it’s even more obvious that he was locked in and cared a whole lot about winning. I really think that Owen is just a few corrections away from being a B1G / SEC prospect.
