Tape Talk film study: 6 Defensive standouts from Week 4

I dove into some week 4 defensive film and was thoroughly impressed with what I saw overall. Below are the 6 defensive performances that really stood out to me in week 4.    The standout sophomore was absolutely destructive in this rivalry game that was decided by 1 point. He did a lot of damage at the 2 tech, lined up head up against guards who he beat more times than not. Harrison played fast with very violent hands he used to shed blocks and get to the ball carrier. Bowers saw multiple double teams that he was still able to beat using his extensive strength and wonderful technique. He showcased a push-pull move that really impressed me considering you don't see that type of move at the high school level very often. Harrison was unstoppable finishing with a sack and 2 TFLs.     Josiah played a really good game, showcasing a lot of his abilities against a good Hammond Morton team from Indiana. Parker lined up as the boundary corner as well as the field corner, that right there let me know he can play multiple different techniques when needed. He defended against several different route concepts, squeezing receivers to the sidelines on go balls and playing the upfield shoulder on seam routes. On shorter and intermediate routes, Josiah did really well firing out of his back pedal to go make a play on the ball. To top it all off, he assisted his defense in the run game, shedding blocks and wrapping up ball carriers. Parker finished with multiple PBUs downfield and tackles in a good week 4 showing.     Gavins week 4 film could be teach tape on how to play on the edge trusting your eyes and athletic ability. He did a wonderful job of staying attached to the hip of down blockers before meeting pullers in the hole with good technique. Bouma played with patience and great discipline, he also showcased his strength and mobility fighting to bring ball carriers to the ground. One play that really stood out to me on tape was him jamming a TE on the line and following through with tight coverage downfield. He finished with 5 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU and multiple hurries on the QB.     Seth was the definition of "deeper than the deepest" at his free safety position. Lurking and roaming downfield waiting on the perfect time to attack. Bernock was great at flowing with receivers while still reading the eyes of the quarterback. From there he was able to jump two different routes for an interception, showcasing his IQ and ball skills. He returned one for a TD and nearly returned the other as well..     Nathan wreaked havoc at nose tackle, playing in the 0 tech like a true two gapper. He did a great job of anchoring down right at the point of attack, locking out offensive lineman and not allowing much movement off the snap. I really liked seeing his ability to get skinny to defeat the double teams the opposing offense threw at him. He also showed some nice movement wrapping around his teammate on a stunt to make the tackle at the LOS. He had 2 TFLs along with a host of other solo and assisted tackles.     Ryan played like a bowling ball full of energy all night. Whether he was lined up at the MLB or as an edge rusher, Koch made explosive plays for his defense. At the Mike, he was able to time up his blitzes perfectly or shoot gaps to cause immediate disruption for ball carriers and their offense. He also came off the edge with a vengeance, showcasing some impressive club moves to go along with his strength and athleticism. Ryan finished week 4 with a full stat sheet including 9 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 sack and 1 FF.
