We'll see a renewal of an old 6A-2 rivalry here as 6A-1's top-ranked Bixby hosts 6A-2's top-ranked Stillwater on Friday night. It's also the second straight week we'll see two teams that are ranked number one square off against one another after Lincoln Christian beat Jones last week. Bixby went on the road and took down Owasso last week while the Pioneers beat Fayetteville 23-3. Both teams had really impressive wins and that should just add a little more hype to this match-up. These two teams have played some classics in the playoffs in the past. But they haven't played since Bixby moved up to Class 6A-1 starting with the 2022 season.    For Bixby, it's another chance to get better with a young roster that also has plenty of established and talented players. The Spartans took some of Owasso's best shots and found a way to get out of week zero with a victory. You look back at that game and you see a balanced contest from the Spartans. They certainly leaned more on the run game, behind a very talented offensive line. But they were incredibly efficient when they threw the ball. The expectation this week is that all three quarterbacks will continue to play, similar to last week. But that will be an interesting position to follow throughout the rest of the 2026 season.   For Stillwater, the Pioneers get to see exactly where they stack up against the best team and program in Oklahoma. Bixby is the measuring stick right now. You win eight consecutive state titles and eleven in the last twelve years and you get that distinction. Stillwater looks like a state championship contender in 6A-2 and there's a reason we have them number one in the 6A-2 rankings. They won't back down from the challenge of facing the Spartans and they'll find out exactly who they are and what they're good at and where they need to improve following this game. Behind a balanced offense and a stingy defense, the Pioneers are not a team to take lightly.   Below, we put the spotlight on three different players for each team to keep an eye on. It was difficult to limit it to three as we anticipate plenty of players making big time plays throughout the night on Friday night.   BIXBY PLAYERS TO WATCH   [player_tooltip player_id='480317' first='Cain' last='Brackney'] - Senior Linebacker   We had high expectations for this Bixby linebacker group coming into this season and they haven't disappointed. Senior linebacker and Indiana commit [player_tooltip player_id='480317' first='Cain' last='Brackney'] made his Bixby debut after moving over from Union in the offseason. Brackney led the Spartans in tackles in their victory over Owasso and now the pressure gets ratcheted up in week one. Brackney and the Bixby backers will look to slow down Stillwater's rushing attack. They have a workhorse running back and dual-threat quarterback that Brackney and company will try to contain on Friday night.   [player_tooltip player_id='976705' first='Isaiah' last='Butcher IV'] - Junior Quarterback   We knew that Bixby was going to play multiple quarterbacks in week zero and they did just that. But it's hard not to see what junior signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='976705' first='Isaiah' last='Butcher IV'] was able to do as a passer and definitely as a runner in that week zero win. He was efficient when they asked him to throw the ball, although that wasn't very often. He did almost all of his damage on the ground. It will be interesting to see how Bixby continues to rotate their quarterbacks moving forward. But one thing to watch is how the Spartans attack a Stillwater defense that forced a ton of turnovers last week.   [player_tooltip player_id='2154350' first='Maverick' last='Owens'] - Freshman Defensive Back   It was quite the debut for freshman defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='2154350' first='Maverick' last='Owens'] last week. Owens has been known around the Tulsa area for a while now as one of the top middle school football players in this area. Many expected Owens to be an instant impact player, despite joining powerhouse Bixby and only being a freshman. He certainly lived up to the hype with his first game. He had an interception in the win and had multiple pass break ups. He was lined up against some of Owasso's best athletes and was repeatedly answering the call. He looks primed for a big season.   STILLWATER PLAYERS TO WATCH   [player_tooltip player_id='1833738' first='Cyrus' last='Johnson'] - Sophomore Wide Receiver/Defensive Back   Sophomore wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1833738' first='Cyrus' last='Johnson'] had a terrific offseason so it's no surprise that he came out and had a solid showing in their week zero win over Fayetteville on Friday night. Now, the competition levels up and Johnson will need to be on his A-game on both sides of the ball if the Pioneers are going to go on the road and knock off the Spartans. In our opinion, Johnson is one of the better 2029 prospects in the state and he showed that time after time at various points during the offseason. Now, he's looking to do that every Friday night.   [player_tooltip player_id='1828950' first='Parker' last='Peterson'] - Senior Defensive Lineman   Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1828950' first='Parker' last='Peterson'] was an absolute menace on the line of scrimmage as the Pioneers shut down Fayetteville in their week zero win. The Pioneer defense forced countless turnovers but you have to look at what Peterson did on the line of scrimmaged that forced Fayetteville into mistakes. Peterson was also productive, finishing with five tackles but four of them were behind the line of scrimmage and he also had a pair of sacks. Bixby has two of the best OL prospects in the state but Peterson isn't going to back down from that challenge.   [player_tooltip player_id='700412' first='Peyton' last='Campbell'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back   We were already high on senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='700412' first='Peyton' last='Campbell'] coming into this season for what he does on the defensive side of the ball but he's quickly becoming arguably Stillwater's top two-way threat at wide receiver and in the secondary. Campbell was still a dominant safety in the win over Fayetteville. But he turned around and was their leading wide receiver on offense, finishing the night with over 100 yards and a touchdown. The Pioneers need all the firepower they can get to try and take down a Bixby team that is arguably the best in the state right now.
