Safeties to Buy Stock in This Season

The Tennessee high school football season continues today. After a long offseason, we are finally back to the sport that we all love. With new seasons come breakout players, unknown commodities who make a name for themselves and even players who were good but have taken that next step in their football journey.   I'm doing a new series about each position where I find five players whom you and college coaches need to buy stock in. Finishing things off, I have the safeties. Each one is a bit different in their own way, but definitely good enough to buy stock in for this season.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    [player_tooltip player_id='1549656' first='Redding' last='Wilson'] had a tremendous true freshman season in 2025. He followed that up with a productive offseason, where he picked up two Division I offers and got better for his sophomore year.   Wilson offers good size for his age and position, standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds. He's a long, rangy player who can get downhill quickly, but also play great coverage in center field.   So far this season, he's been highly impressive, to say the least. He has taken that next step and should add many more FBS offers soon. Wilson is physical, moves well, offers great football instincts and possesses the versatility to be used in several ways.    ---    Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1707825' first='Gibby' last='Tomberlin'] is one of my favorite defensive backs in the state of Tennessee. He showed great things at Maryville last season, but made the move to Knox Webb this offseason, where he's a starter.   He is a compact defender, standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 185 pounds with a lean, stout frame. Tomberlin is well-built with plenty of muscle, but maintained his mobility that makes him so dangerous.   The 2029 prospect is a unique safety, as he is not afraid of contact. A lot of DBs at this level don't like physicality, but Tomberlin is different. He loves to dish out violent hits. That, along with his coverage skills, athleticism, shifty footwork and ability to get downhill, makes him an exciting guy to watch.    ---    Blackman's [player_tooltip player_id='1580781' first='Jayden' last='Sanders'] has been on my radar for a minute. The 2028 prospect has shown flashes of being a great high school safety, but so far this season, he's been much more of a consistent player.   Over the past two weeks, he's made or been in on nearly 10+ tackles. He also had a big pick-six last week in a 47-0 win. Sanders had a very strong offseason, becoming more skilled and building his body.   He now stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 185 pounds. Sanders is lean but is a rangy, athletic safety who is terrific in the back end of Blackman's defense. The junior improved his tackling this offseason, which allows Will Hester to move him around the field.    ---    [player_tooltip player_id='1617036' first='Miguel' last='Moore'] is one of the more underrated defensive backs in the state of Tennessee. He's also a very versatile athlete who can play as a box safety, but also cover in the back end of Southwind's defense.   The junior safety stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 190 pounds with a powerful, long frame for his position. Moore is actually a hybrid player who plays a lot of strong safety, but can drop down to outside linebacker.   The 2028 prospect plays with a great brand of physicality, covers well, has excellent athleticism, is twitchy and communicates well with his defense.    ---    [player_tooltip player_id='1038808' first='Reece' last='Reynolds'] is somebody whose film I just watched. Honestly, I didn't know much about the junior DB, but after dissecting his game, I'm a fan.   He's a well-built DB, standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds. The '28 prospect is strong with some of the best athleticism in Division II-AA. I genuinely think he could play himself into an FBS-level prospect over the next couple of years.   Reynolds is smart and plays with a high motor. He also possesses all of the necessary physical tools to be a dominant force. He plays coverage well, has good technique, is twitchy, can tackle and always seems to find his way around the football.
