Motorized Ball Hawking LBs Across the State

Which motors at the linebacker position are running high at the midseason point in Nebraska high school football? As we scanned thru tape this afternoon, these handful of linebackers passed the eye test with flying colors.    There are not too many linebackers in the state of Nebraska in the 2028 class that already have Division 1 measurables and elite skillsets at their disposal like Lincoln Christian's Carter Hatt has. The 6'2 230 pounder has boulder strength that still shows the locks of agility with his hands getting off blocks and always seems to be right where he ends to be from a timing perspective to make a physical tackle. He's a hole-eater when it comes to stuffing the running game and does so with downhill penetration. Carter was an Oliver West favorite at the NDSU Indy Camp over the summer that like me feels its hard to miss Carter from the eye-test. Don't be surprised if Carter is an early offer kid in this 2028 class upcoming.     One of my favorite motors out of this 2028 list thus far comes from Millard South's [player_tooltip player_id='2132121' first='Drew' last='Kozeal'], and college coaches I assure you will see it quickly on his midseason tape. I like a linebacker that can make the long haul down the ball and show off their range, as that's what Drew does well on numerous reps you will see on tape. You can also gauge the instincts Drew has from a vision perspective regardless of if he heads to the outside box or the inside box, as he shows off the well-versed pursuit angles you want to see. Millard South has a lot of starpower no doubt, and Drew looks like one in the 2028 class that I have noted as a stockriser thru his midseason eval     One of the biggest motors I have seen from an undersized linebacker in this 2027 classs with their recent comes from Lawrence-Nelson's [player_tooltip player_id='1635450' first='Thomas' last='Ord']. The explosiveness this young man has at his disposal out of his stance was was surely eye-catching last week against Superior, where Thomas logged 14 tackles and the bulk of the reps I watched he flew into the backfield like a bat out of you know what. What intrigues me most about Thomas from last week, is nowhere where he lines up, he utilzes his change of direction to maneuver thru tight areas right into the heart of the ball carrier. Very fluid and has a nose for the ball that I feel has a lot of position flexibility on the defensive side of the ball.     Another 2028 linebacker that has made some steady growth into his junior season is Omaha Westside's [player_tooltip player_id='1683770' first='Jacob' last='Obermeyer']. The 6'3 230 pounder you wouldn't think plays that those measurables based on how fluid he is with his movement at the linebacker position as he clungs to the edges of the box while attacking the hip in sometimes high traffic areas. That size however does pop out in open space, as the physicality that Jacob showed against Lee's Summit, showed why he is not one that you'll want to meet coming out of the backfield. The Division 1 schools have been interesed in this kid for a reason, as that's why he'll be way higher than LB9 by our next 2028 update.     Quentin has had over double-digit tackles for every week since the season started and is coming off a game day vist at South Dakota State here last weekend for a reason. He shows off how well-rounded off a linebacker as he is an enforcer the most in Fort Calhouns' run defense, but yet has the range and agile movement to be an asset in the pass game as well. The 6'2 210 pounder is agile too getting off blocks in the interior and has the short area vision to latch onto the ball carrier with quick ease. He is surely another one in this 2028 linebacking class that deserves a bump up our rankings.
