5A Conference Players of the Week: Week 1

<p>The 2026 Oregon high school football season is officially underway, and Week 1 brought plenty of standout performances across the 5A ranks. Each week, we'll highlight one player from each 5A conference who made the biggest impact in his team's victory. While not every team's statistics are readily accessible, we'll do our best to recognize the players who put together the most impressive performances from the information available. From record-setting offensive performances to players making an impact on both sides of the ball, these are the athletes who stood out in Week 1.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Intermountain Conference</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">McNulty was a major factor on both sides of the ball as Redmond opened the season with a 35-25 victory over South Albany. The junior carried the ball 26 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns, consistently keeping the Panther offense moving with his physical running style. McNulty was just as productive defensively, recording seven tackles and forcing a fumble. His ability to shoulder a heavy workload offensively while making an impact on defense made him one of the biggest difference-makers in Redmond's Week 1 win.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Northwest Oregon Conference SD1</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Turin helped Sandy make a statement against its 6A rival, leading the No. 8 Pioneers to a convincing 48-21 win over Barlow. The senior quarterback carved up the Barlow defense through the air, throwing for 322 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. Turin's ability to consistently create explosive plays through the passing game gave Sandy control of the matchup, while his rushing touchdown added another dimension to an already productive night. After making the move down to 5A, the Pioneers couldn't have asked for a much better way to open the season.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Northwest Oregon Conference SD2</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Scales led St. Helens to one of the most dominant victories of Week 1, as the Lions rolled past David Douglas 50-6. While the senior quarterback's overall numbers weren't readily available, his impact was evident throughout the lopsided win. One of the night's biggest highlights came when Scales broke loose for a 67-yard touchdown run, breaking multiple tackles on his way to the end zone. His ability to make plays with his legs added another element to the St. Helens offense and helped the Lions establish control early.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Greater Metro Conference</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Glos wasted no time showing why Wilsonville enters the season as one of the top teams in 5A. The senior quarterback threw for 265 yards and five touchdowns as the No. 2 Wildcats raced past Milwaukie 56-28 in their season opener. Glos consistently found the end zone through the air, helping Wilsonville's offense put together a 56-point performance against the Mustangs. With five touchdown passes in his first game of the year, Glos immediately established himself as one of the classification's most dangerous quarterbacks and helped the Wildcats start their campaign in dominant fashion.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mid-Willamette Conference</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Galusha continued his run as one of the most productive two-way players in 5A, turning in another outstanding performance in Dallas' 45-12 victory over Central. The senior totaled 13 tackles and three tackles for loss defensively while racking up 234 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. One of those scores came on a kickoff return, further showcasing the versatility that has made Galusha such a difficult player to game-plan for. Whether it was creating plays on defense, contributing offensively, or making an impact on special teams, Galusha was involved in nearly every phase of the Dragons' dominant Week 1 performance.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Midwestern League</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Hamann once again served as the engine of Eagle Point's ground attack, helping the Eagles cruise to a 30-0 shutout of McKay. The junior running back finished with 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns, providing the production Eagle Point needed while its defense completely shut down the Royal Scots. Hamann's ability to consistently move the chains and finish drives helped Eagle Point build its lead while complementing a defensive effort that never allowed McKay to find the scoreboard.</p>
