5 Kentucky Freshmen Ready to Make Some Noise

Midway through the season, let's take a look at five more Class of 2030 prospects who have caught the eye of Prep Redzone early in their careers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2142890' first='Christopher' last='Perry'] has established himself as one of the top players in the freshman class this season. He plays both ways for a young McCreary Central squad. As a running back, Perry has rushed for three touchdowns and is averaging 6.9 yards per carry this season. Defensively, however, is where he specializes. He's recorded 31 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 1.0 sack through six games. Perry plays physically on both sides of the ball. This translates well when he's running up the middle, where he can shove defenders away as he fights for extra yards. Defensively, his downhill, confident, and aggressive style as a freshman makes him stand out as a player to remember over the next three seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='1664748' first='Caden' last='Stradley'] has elite size for a freshman at his position (tight end/defensive end). Stradley's primary focus is on the EDGE, where he is a violent, imposing presence along the line of scrimmage. His length helps him shed blocks and create separation as he pursues the ball carrier. As a tight end, he's taller than almost everyone else and can high-point the football and bring the ball in through contested catches. He recently visited Kentucky, so it seems the Wildcats are getting a head start on a budding TE/DE prospect with room to grow.

[player_tooltip player_id='1276039' first='Colt' last='Sturgill'] plays for Pulaski County High School and has pieced together some nice film from his first six games with the Maroons. He's a shifty prospect who can play out wide and also take the ball out of the backfield in motion. Sturgill has a strong jump cut and hesitation move that allows him to create separation from the defense before his quick feet take care of the rest. Sturgill's body will fill out as he gets older and continues his high school career. For now, he's an X-factor, plug-and-play piece for Pulaski County's football team.

[player_tooltip player_id='2143994' first='Preston' last='Schaffer'] has had a productive start to his freshman season for Franklin County. He has shown a strong sense of awareness in the trenches and is quick to recognize the play. He has an impressive reaction time when looking to shed his block, pick a side, and pursue the ball carrier. Overall, Schaffer is a solid, fundamental football player who continues to show maturity with each game he plays. Through six appearances this season, he's totaled 58 tackles (19 solo), 2 tackles for loss, and half a sack.

Micah Klope is a strong, explosive athlete from McCracken County. Klope plays all over the field (TE, WR, RB) offensively, but is most effective in the passing game. When he plays tight end, he does a good job of selling his block before sneaking out for a pass. He's not the fastest player, but has a powerful body that helps him stay upright through would-be tackles. Defensively, he's among the top freshman tacklers in the Commonwealth. I expect him to have a successful career with one of the top QBs in Kentucky throwing him the football.
