Friday night lights did not disappoint in week two of Tennessee high school football action as I stopped by the town of Parsons in Decatur County to watch Riverside take on Lexington in what was a very close contest between two extremely talented ball clubs. The Tigers came out on top, defeating the Panthers 14-8. Following four quarters, here's my full game recap as well as my top performers.

Top Performers

In the first place spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1549656' first='Redding' last='Wilson'], a defensive back at Lexington High School. Wilson was unstoppable on both sides of the ball, hauling in an impressive touchdown pass on the Tigers' first drive of the game. Wilson also made a number of big catches and did a great job breaking away from the defense after the catch. Defensively, Wilson was stellar at locking down the backfield and shutting down passing targets. I also liked how Wilson could shut down the run game, showing off his ability to read the offense in crucial moments.

Making a number of impressive plays under center was [player_tooltip player_id='1086454' first='Ross' last='Wilson'], a quarterback at Lexington High School. In addition to his powerful arm, Wilson impressed me with his ability to escape the defense on the ground, recording a number of great runs throughout four quarters. On top of tossing an outstanding touchdown pass, Wilson punched into the house in the third quarter to help the Tigers retake the lead. This is definitely an under the radar quarterback prospect to know about now.

Another prospect to catch my attention was [player_tooltip player_id='933024' first='Jack' last='Cupples'], an athlete at Riverside High School. Cupples was easily the top playmaker on Riverside's roster, making a huge difference offensively with his size and elite catching ability. In addition to scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion, Cupples managed to come down with a number of challenging passes under heavy coverage. This is definitely a prospect to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Impressing me on the offensive end was [player_tooltip player_id='1086452' first='Levi' last='Wilkinson'], a running back/linebacker at Lexington High School. Wilkinson caught my attention on both sides of the ball, proving his ability to excel when his team needed it most. Wilkinson hauled in an impressive interception as well as blasted into enemy territory to put his team within scoring range. This talented junior especially impressed me at running back, proving he's a hard man to bring to the ground.

Making a huge difference on the defensive side of the ball was [player_tooltip player_id='932980' first='Elye' last='Pearson'], a defensive back/wide receiver at Lexington High School. Pearson was an excellent two-way player for the Tigers, catching some great passes as well as hauling in the game-winning interception in the endzone. This is a talented player to watch out for as the season continues as his size, speed, and wingspan make him nearly impossible to contain.

Game Recap

Lexington struck first on their first snap of the contest as [player_tooltip player_id='1086454' first='Ross' last='Wilson'] found [player_tooltip player_id='1549656' first='Redding' last='Wilson'] deep down field for the touchdown pass. The Tigers would take an early 7-0 lead over Riverside with 11:41 remaining in the first quarter. It didn't take long for the Panthers to pull ahead as Jacob Duck connected with [player_tooltip player_id='933024' first='Jack' last='Cupples'] in the endzone for the touchdown. Instead of kicking the field goal, Riverside went for the two-point conversion as Cupples powered his way into the house for the extra score. The Panthers led the Tigers 8-7 with 5:58 left in the first quarter. It was a defensive battle until the end of the first half as Riverside held a slim 8-7 lead over Lexington heading into the locker room. Lexington utilized their run game in the third quarter to push their way into Panther territory. The Tigers would go on to take the lead as Wilson kept the ball to himself and marched into the house for the score. Lexington held a 14-8 lead over Riverside with 2:59 left in the third quarter. With a chance to take the lead, Riverside made it all the way to the goal line before Lexington's defense came up huge. A pass to the corner of the endzone was picked off by [player_tooltip player_id='932980' first='Elye' last='Pearson'], which would secure the victory for Lexington. The Tigers won 14-8 and improve to 2-0 on the season while the Panthers fell to 1-1 on the year.
