Cumberland County Jamboree Recap Part 2

Part 2 of our Cumberland County Jamboree coverage closes out the night with two more matchups and another group of prospects who caught my attention.   First up was Overhills vs. Cape Fear, a matchup that gave us a good early look at two physical teams with plenty of athletes on both sides of the football.   The finale of the night featured Westover vs. Jack Britt, with both programs giving us plenty to evaluate before the regular season gets underway.   Now it's time to get into the top performers and prospects who stood out from the final two scrimmages of the night.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Overhills vs Cape Fear [   Overhills vs. Cape Fear was by far the most explosive matchup of all four games at the Cumberland County Jamboree. The fireworks started immediately, with both offenses scoring touchdowns on their very first touches. From there, the energy stayed high, with explosive plays coming from both sides. It was an exciting back-and-forth matchup that gave plenty of playmakers an opportunity to shine.    Walker showed exactly why he's a home-run hitter out of the backfield. On his first touch of the game, he exploded for a 50-plus-yard touchdown, immediately setting the tone. He's a dynamic, strong runner with the burst to turn one crease into six points. Every time Walker touches the football, the defense has to respect his big-play ability.     Daughtry played an extremely clean game despite Cape Fear being undermanned. What stood out was his command—he was vocal throughout the scrimmage, directing teammates and helping some of the younger, newer players get lined up. He looked comfortable both inside and outside the pocket, showing off a strong arm and fitting several impressive throws between defenders. We didn't see much of his running ability, which is another area where he really shines, but his performance as a passer showed plenty of growth and poise.     Hurley was the clear leader in the middle of the Cape Fear defense. He plays with a physical, aggressive mentality and made several impressive plays while fighting through and shedding blocks. Hurley is a bully on the field—strong at the point of attack, willing to take on blockers, and consistently finding his way to the football.     Godbolt is new to the position and traditionally a basketball player, but you can immediately see the potential. This was my first time watching him, and I came away very impressed. He has a great frame, long arms, and the natural athleticism you would expect from a basketball player. He's still learning the position, but the upside is there. If Godbolt continues to work and develop his technique, he could turn into a very intriguing college prospect off the edge.     Coley flashed immediately when given the opportunity to throw the football. His first pass went for a long touchdown, and his second resulted in another big gain. He didn't show much of his running ability, but he didn't need to—Coley was dropping passes all over the field throughout the night. He showed impressive touch, arm talent, and big-play ability for a young quarterback.     Teewia was incredible and looked like a running back ready for a huge senior season. He has set a goal of averaging 200 rushing yards per game, and if he runs like he did last night, that goal is well within reach. Teewia scored the first time he touched the ball and the last time he touched it, consistently creating big plays in between. If this had been a full regulation game, he looked like he could have cleared 200 yards by halftime. Explosive, decisive, and dangerous every time he touched the football.     Goldwire is a name to remember heading into the season. He brings an impressive combination of strength, speed, and explosiveness to the Overhills offense. He has great hands and the ability to turn any touch into a touchdown, making him a legitimate scoring threat from anywhere on the field. Big-play potential every time the ball comes his way.     The big brother of QB [player_tooltip player_id='2333759' first='Kamryyn' last='Coley'], and their connection was evident early and often. Ryyan is a true deep threat with the speed to take the top off a defense and stretch the field vertically. He's also sure-handed and reliable when the ball comes his way. The Coley-to-Coley connection could be one to watch this season for Overhills.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Westover vs Jack Britt   The finale between Westover and Jack Britt never really got a chance to find its rhythm. The game was suspended for roughly 30 minutes, and the delay seemed to take some of the steam out of the matchup once play resumed. We only saw one official touchdown, although Westover had another score called back.   Even without a lot of points on the board, there was a ton of talent on the field. Both teams had athletes flash throughout the scrimmage, and several prospects made plays that stood out despite the stop-and-start nature of the game.    Kline dealt with plenty of adversity early but settled in and led his young receiving corps down the field. He showed promise as a passer while also flashing some athleticism on an option run. With a young group around him, his leadership and experience will be important. I'm looking forward to seeing what Kline can do during his senior season.     Smith is a freshman phenom and already one of the top young prospects in the area. He impacts the game at both wide receiver and safety, showing natural playmaking ability on either side of the ball. He can catch, he can hit, and most importantly, he plays fearless. For a freshman already making plays at the varsity level, Smith has tremendous upside and is definitely a name to remember in the 2030 class.     Williams made a few catches during the scrimmage and showed impressive toughness for a freshman playing at the varsity level. Physically, you can already see the development from last season—he's gotten taller and added some good weight to his frame. Williams is still young, but the combination of his toughness, growth, and early varsity experience makes him another 2030 prospect to keep an eye on at Westover.     Carswell is a physical, downhill runner who does his best work between the tackles. He's a decisive one-cut back with good strength, but what really stands out is his surprising speed once he gets into the open field. Carswell showed that explosiveness with one big run during the scrimmage. He has the combination of power and speed to take it the distance when he finds a crease.     Barnes surprised me by making an impact on both sides of the football. Known primarily as a tight end, he showed his selflessness and leadership by lining up at EDGE and making multiple plays in the backfield. Offensively, Barnes came through with the lone touchdown of the contest. His willingness to do whatever his team needs, combined with his ability to impact the game on both sides, stood out in a big way.     Snow continues to show why he's one of, if not the top pass catchers in the area. He caught everything that came his way during the scrimmage and consistently created separation. His route running is what really separates him—there aren't many receivers in the area who run routes as clean and polished as Snow. Sure-handed, quick out of his breaks, and extremely difficult to cover one-on-one.     Figueroa is a true linebacker who shores up the middle of the Jack Britt defense. He's a leader on the field who plays with confidence and physicality. His closing speed stood out, and when he arrives at the football, he delivers a serious punch. Figueroa has the toughness, instincts, and downhill mentality you want from the man in the middle.     Thompson is already one of the top young prospects in the region. He has a strong arm, an impressive frame for his age, and the athleticism to make plays with his legs when things break down. The tools and upside are easy to see, especially for a freshman. Remember the name—[player_tooltip player_id='2325766' first='Caiden' last='Thompson'] is a 2030 quarterback with a very bright future.
