AVC Football Camp: Quarterback Notebook, Volume III

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For the third year running, I was invited back by Fairleigh Dickinson University&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/CoachAVC_FDU">Head Coach Anthony Van Curen</a>, as he - yet again - pulled off our region's largest one-day football camp. This year's rendition welcomed just over 450 participants who all eyed up the opportunity to get eyeballed in front of current college coaches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I could not determine which was deeper: the roster was loaded with talent or the roster of coaches in attendance. In my three years covering this event, this is perhaps the widest range of U.S. states represented, including: Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Georgia, Florida, Delaware, and Connecticut. However, more than I can recall in the last, an International crop of talent was extremely well represented, with prospects hailing from Austria, Bavaria, Danmark, Baden-Wurttemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Catalunya, Kenya, Podlaskie, Rhineland-Palatinate, Steiermark, Thuringia, Uppland, and Vienna. As far as coaches, there were more than I could count.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Below you will find my evaluation notes for the position group mentioned in the title of this article. If things go as they hope, [player_tooltip player_id='1165643' first='Jaime' last='Marin III'] could stand to be one of the biggest benefactors of it all. As is with any camp, Marin's timing was a bit off with some of his paired receivers that he never threw to before, resulting in them having to stop for the ball. Mechanics wise, I know I am about to sound contradictory here, but it seemed as though Marin had a quick-but-elongated throwing motion. When called upon to hit an out route, Garrett got the ball out early and in a spot where his target would be. This allowed his paired receiver to plant, cut, and get upfield for additional yardage without having to slow down on the merits of Garrett's throw. Before that, however, Garrett uncorked one of the deepest, highest throws I saw. This bomb might have been about 70 yards up in the air, as it crescendo'd, apexed, and decrescendo'd right into his targets hands. After stops at St. Joseph's Regional, Hudson Catholic, and Cardinal Hayes in the Bronx, Mercorelli now represents his fourth team in four years at Hoboken. In the bit that I caught of him, Mercorelli threw an accurate ball over the middle, specifically on crossers and in-breaking routes. Comparatively speaking, on passes up the sideline I thought that he could extend the ball a bit more toward the boundary. I thought that Tinsley had outstanding ball placement on deep passes, both toward the boundary and over the middle. His passes allowed his receivers to catch and run without slowing down. Is there perhaps a quarterback competition brewing in Elizabeth between Tinsley and incumbent three-year starter Arqiue Fleming?
