704 Metro Area Week 2 Roundup

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was a rare week where I was not on a sideline for this past Friday Night's action under the lights, but I was able to check out several games via NFHS Network, so we're going to go around the Charlotte Metro Area with some quick scores and roundup thoughts on a number of games this week. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Hough 35 Cardinal Gibbons 10 </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Huskies offense got on track in this game, as QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='254550' first='Ethan' last='Royal']</strong> looked like the best quarterback in the 2027 class, throwing four touchdown passes. 2 went to <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2072205' first='Mason' last='Pearsall-Brown']</strong>, and the other 2 went to <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1678655' first='Jahmere' last='Anderson']</strong>, who continues his impressive start to the season. The Huskies defense also continued to play very well as a unit, only giving up a field goal to a very good Cardinal Gibbons team. The other 7 points came from a pick 6 by <strong>Danny Rahe</strong> against the Hough 2nd string offense. The Huskies look ready for another showcase game this week at home against Providence Day.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>East Lincoln 26 Providence 24</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1607779' first='Jaxon' last='Dollar']</strong> showed everyone why he's a major recruit in a close victory on the road over a good Providence team. Offensively he had 8 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown, but on defense he was even more disruptive. Dollar intercepted a halfback swing pass attempt and took it all the way to the endzone for a touchdown. He also had 2 sacks and multiple pressures on the quarterback from his EDGE position. Quarterback <strong>Davis Beam</strong> also had a strong game for the Mustangs. Starring for Providence was TE/WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1125763' first='Alex' last='Haywood'] </strong>who had 11 catches for 140 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Community School of Davidson 35 South Mecklenburg 14</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I don't think it was a surprise that Community School of Davidson won this game, but the margin definitely opened some eyes across the area. QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1041542' first='Ty' last='Sigler']</strong> did a very good job distributing the football in their spread attack, ATH <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2266190' first='Cade' last='Rasmussen']</strong> was a playmaker on both sides of the ball, and the Spartans really won this game at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. South Meck never was able to get in a consistent offensive rhythm and had some untimely mistakes and turnovers that the Spartans took advantage of for a big win. The Spartans look like they could be a 2A contender along with Corvian in the Catawba Shores conference title race. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Butler 42 Statesville 14</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2206348' first='Jerome' last='Newman']</strong> gave the Greyhounds a 7-0 lead with an impressive Pick 6 on an attempted swing pass, the Bulldogs settled themselves down and played very well on both offense and defense to move to 2-0 on the season. Bulldogs Quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2348091' first='Niko' last='Henderson']</strong> is doing a good job controlling the spread offense, he had another 3 touchdown passes and looks very fluid and in control behind center. The Butler defense forced some turnovers as well, and they're playing really good complimentary football right now. They have a big matchup this upcoming week against Indian Land (SC). </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Harding 47 Garinger 21</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Rams bounced back in a big way after a tough Week One loss, and were in total control against the Wildcats. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2213283' first='Daniel' last='Carter']</strong> had a big game on both sides of the ball with 91 rushing yards on only 6 carries, plus 7 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss on defense. Running Back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1970951' first='Jamarcus' last='Hairston']</strong> rushed for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Rams move to 1-1. Garinger DB [player_tooltip player_id='2264337' first='Delorence' last='Henderson'] had a Pick 6 as a highlight play for the Wildcats. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Northwest Cabarrus 27 Central Cabarrus 24 (OT)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In a hard-fought county rivalry game, the Trojans found a way to win at home in overtime over the Vikings to move to 2-0 on the young season. QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1301805' first='Hudson' last='Irwin']</strong> found WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2227378' first='Caleb' last='Bryant']</strong> in the corner of the end zone in overtime for the walkoff victory to move NW Cabarrus to 2-0 on the season. In a tough loss, Vikings ATH <strong>Jamari Bost</strong> had a huge game, scoring 3 touchdowns along with having an interception on defense. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Corvian 19 Independence 0 </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Cardinals pick up a big win at home over Independence to move to 2-0 on the season. Having big games for the Cardinals were ATH <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2325235' first='Cam' last='Simpson']</strong> and RB <strong>Desmond Walker</strong>. Walker rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown along with 48 receiving yards. The Cardinals are in a big game this Thursday Night against Chambers that will show how they stack up with one of the best teams in the Charlotte Metro Area so far early this season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Crest 27 Shelby 24 (OT)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In another classic between these two talented rival schools in Cleveland County, QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1687753' first='KJ' last='Bell']</strong> found WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2151059' first='Brock' last='Melton']</strong> in the back of the end zone on 3rd down in overtime to lead the Chargers to the victory. Crest moves to 2-0 on the season, while Shelby falls to 1-1. The Golden Lions battled through some quarterback injuries and played well at times in this one, WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='483642' first='Immanuel' last='Collins']</strong> was a big part of the offensive success in this one for Shelby.
