Coming off a remarkable 15-1 season, the Rangers enter 2026 with a championship mindset and the confidence of a team that knows what it takes to win at the highest level. Their only loss came against powerhouse Brennan, but instead of letting that setback define them, they used it as motivation and went on a dominant run the rest of the way. Led by Larry Hill, Smithson Valley continued to showcase the culture and consistency that has made this program one of the best in the state, finishing the season by defeating Lone Star in the state championship. The Texas commit has the ability to control the game with his arm, delivering accurate throws and making the right decisions when defenses try to take away his first option. What separates him is his ability to create when plays break down, using his athleticism to extend drives and make defenders account for him as a runner. e has the awareness to move around the pocket, the toughness to take on contact, and the playmaking ability to turn broken plays into big moments.     Carter is a player to watch along the offensive line as he continues to develop his game in the trenches. He brings the toughness and mindset needed to battle in the interior, while continuing to improve his technique and consistency.     Luke brings the complete package at the tight end position, giving the offense a player who can impact the game in multiple ways. He has the ability to step in and make key blocks in the run game while also being a reliable target in the passing attack.     Hunter has proven he is the type of athlete every team wants on the roster. The Texas Tech commit has the ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball, bringing a combination of athleticism, toughness, and playmaking ability wherever he lines up. Whether he's making plays defensively or finding ways to contribute on offense, Hunter has consistently shown he can get the job done.     Jake is a player to watch in the interior of the offensive line as he steps into his role at guard. He brings the mentality needed in the trenches, where consistency, toughness, and attention to detail separate good linemen from great ones.     Caleb was one of the most productive players on the field last season, making an impact on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he was all over the place, finishing with 131 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles. His ability to consistently find the football and make plays in key moments shows the type of impact he brings to the defense.   Offensively, Caleb also contributed out of the backfield, adding 327 rushing yards on 42 carries. At 5'11, 195 pounds, he brings a combination of toughness, athleticism, and versatility that makes him valuable in multiple roles. Expect Caleb to be one of the players leading the way in 2026. Caleb is committed to UTSA.     Gunnar is coming off an impressive season where he surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, showcasing the ability to be a difference maker out of the backfield. His speed is what immediately stands out, giving him the ability to turn a small opening into a big play. With his explosiveness and ability to create separation from defenders.     Leyton is a player who has caught my attention throughout the offseason, getting valuable reps at multiple camps and continuing to improve each time he steps on the field. The work he has put in has helped him grow as a player, and he's putting himself in position to compete for meaningful snaps this season.     Kyle will be a key piece up front as he takes on the responsibility of anchoring the offensive line at center. The position requires leadership, communication, and consistency, and Kyle brings the toughness needed to handle the demands in the trenches.     Jett is putting in the work this summer, and it's starting to show. The 2030 signal caller continues to sharpen every part of his game, from his mechanics to his decision making, while gaining valuable reps against tougher competition. With his work ethic and drive to improve, Weston has a chance to become a key piece of the defense and show why he's a player to keep an eye on.     Truth has taken advantage of the offseason by staying active on the camp circuit, and that work is starting to show. He's continued to sharpen his skills throughout the summer, gaining valuable experience while improving his overall game. The added reps and competition should have him well-prepared to make a bigger impact when the season kicks off.     Noah quietly became one of the most dependable defenders in the secondary last season, finishing with 58 tackles, 12 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and 2 tackles for loss. He plays with confidence, trusts his technique in coverage, and does an excellent job closing on the football. What separates him is his consistency he rarely takes plays off and is just as willing to step into the alley and make a tackle as he is to challenge receivers downfield. Noah is committed to Baylor.     What stands out about Justin is that he's more than just a cover defender. He has the willingness to come downhill, make open-field tackles, and help in run support without hesitation. That combination of staying locked in during coverage while also being a reliable tackler.     Kipton looks like a player ready to turn the corner in 2026. Every offseason report points to someone who has embraced the work, adding to his game and becoming more comfortable in the defense.     Carter is a name to keep an eye on in 2026. The defensive lineman has the size and strength to make life difficult for opposing offenses, consistently winning at the point of attack and creating disruption in the backfield.    Smithson Valley enters 2026 with the expectations that come with being the defending state champion. While replacing key contributors is never easy, the foundation built by Larry Hill gives this program a chance to compete every season. If the next wave of talent develops as expected, don't be surprised to see the Rangers back in the mix for another deep playoff run. Counting them out has rarely been a smart bet, and 2026 looks like another year where Smithson Valley expects to be playing its best football when it matters most.
