The Pearland Oilers are coming off of an outstanding year, their best in Coach Gotte's tenure, winning 11 games, going undefeated in district play, and making a run to the second round of the playoffs. The Oilers were led by an incredible group of seniors on both sides of the ball who will not be easily replaced, but the currently have a core group of players to step into impactful roles.

Last season this team averaged 46 points per game, relying heavily on the ground game and knocking opponents off the ball. The Oilers ran for an average of 272 yards a game behind strong o-line play. Returning on that line is senior First Team All District guard [player_tooltip player_id='408757' first='Colby' last='Rao'], who will be the driving force of the line, senior center/guard [player_tooltip player_id='1974880' first='Grayden' last='Phillips'], and senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='482666' first='Roy' last='Swan Jr.'] All solidified the interior of the line and made way for their backs with pad-popping pulls and pancakes. Senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2218015' first='Michael' last='Shawver'] returns as a leading target, recording 255 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on 25 receptions. He is a big target at 6'3 who can win on the outsides and provides and redzone threat for the offense. [player_tooltip player_id='2083001' first='Braxton' last='Jones'], junior playmaker, is back with explosive play abilities and a guy who can create something out of nothing, hauling in 18 receptions for 331 yards ands 6 touchdowns. Back at tight-end, senior [player_tooltip player_id='2184505' first='KJ' last='Johnson'] returns as a physical pass-catcher who creates mismatches with his quickness off of the line and "go get it" attitude with the ball in the air. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='2169120' first='Royce' last='Swan'] returns as the lead back with plenty of experience, rushing for 875 yards and 14 touchdowns. He will be the spark of the offense and go-to guy in the clutch.

Other names to look out for will be senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2237445' first='Kaleb' last='Smith'] as he now has the keys to the offense. Senior fullback Dominic Teichelman, who is one of the most important pieces to this operation leading the way blocking for his teammates, and sophomore 6'3 tight-end [player_tooltip player_id='2229239' first='Ryder' last='Kerr'] who has shown promise in both blocking and receiving.

https://twitter.com/kalebsmith25/status/1855677214890602726?s=20

https://twitter.com/mikshawver88/status/1993118181523964065?s=20

The defense returns 7 starters, headlined by Miami commit, DT [player_tooltip player_id='1630693' first='DeMarco' last='Jenkins']. The game-wrecker is back after a 6 sack, 17 TFLs junior campaign ready to continue his dominate play. Next to him will be senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='2091831' first='Taylan' last='Alviza'], who recorded 3 sacks, 8 TFLs, and 40 tackles last season. Another top returner is U of H commit, senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1938524' first='Kamryn' last='Harris']. He shoots the gaps, he plays the run, and he can cover in space. Harris tallied 63 tackles, 1 INT, and 1 sack last season. In the secondary the Oilers return senior cornerbacks [player_tooltip player_id='2120491' first='Edward' last='Smith'] and Mekhi Guischard-Yearwood to take away the outsides.

https://twitter.com/taylan_alviza/status/1994465046856974354?s=20

For the Oilers it may not be easy replicating the incredible season they had last year, but they are more than capable of doing so. The offense does not stray away from what they know, physicality at the line of scrimmage, knocking the opposition back, and allowing your playmakers to make plays. They are built on a solid foundation with a winning culture. Defensively, the Oilers have players who can swing the momentum with one play and guys who fly to the ball. They are ready for big moments and will show no fear towards any challenge. The Oilers will be a contender once again this coming fall and a team to watch late in the season as their playstyle will overwhelm opponents.

Pearland Schedule

The Pearland Oilers are coming off of an outstanding year, their best in Coach Gotte's tenure, winning 11 games, going undefeated in district play, and making a run to the second round of the playoffs. The Oilers were led by an incredible group of seniors on both sides of the ball who will not be easily replaced, but the currently have a core group of players to step into impactful roles.
