PRZVA Team Preview: Mount Vernon Majors

<p><strong>Last Years Result: </strong>7-4 Fell in Region Quarterfinals</p>   <p><strong>Head Coach</strong>: Andrew Holland Second season</p>   <p>Mount Vernon returns a ton from their National District leading squad of a year ago, Coach Holland has come in and established a winning culture very quickly.  "<em>Our offseason went really well expect to be highly competitive this year not just in the district but in the region as well.  We have a large amount of depth up front on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  We look to have a balanced attack on offense and a strong defensive unit.  As always we have explosive athletes on the perimeter and we look forward to our growth from the qb position as [player_tooltip player_id='1908110' first='Joey' last='Lee'] goes into his second season.   We expect the vast majority of starters on either side of the ball to be seniors and we expect them to show great leadership which they have shown all offseason. </em>" Coach Holland</p>   <p><strong>Key Returnees:</strong> [player_tooltip player_id='1908110' first='Joey' last='Lee'], [player_tooltip player_id='1718647' first='Treavor' last='Olmstead'], [player_tooltip player_id='1396390' first='Frank' last='Genkinger'], [player_tooltip player_id='1717823' first='CJ' last='James'], [player_tooltip player_id='2257837' first='Mike' last='Afryie'], Declan Banford, [player_tooltip player_id='2257838' first='Jordan' last='Figueroa']</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Olmstead is a stud one of the best playmakers in the National District is back. He is a Division 2 or higher safety in my opinion and he looked faster when I saw him turning heads at the FCPS showcase. Treavor had 2 pick sixes last fall establishing himself as a first team all district selection. He has great vision and ball skills and he boosted his overall ranking in our last update to 200th overall. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Treavorolmstea4/status/1991586538552193072?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">A number of reasons why the Majors are not only considered District favorites but also expected to make a deep playoff run is the amount of skill guys returning including [player_tooltip player_id='1717823' first='CJ' last='James']. Another senior who had all district honors a year ago. James is a slot back with top notch speed. I enjoy the way Coach Holland employs him on offense, this kid can beat you on an end around or over the top. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1908110' first='Joey' last='Lee'] had an excellent junior campaign throwing for 16 touchdowns and earning second team all district honors. I think what I enjoy most about Lee's game is that he seems to have that clutch gene. Numerous times last year he lead game winning drives, he really looks locked in late in contests. Seems to be a bit underrecruited as he has been turning heads this off-season. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/joeyleemv12/status/1995539365750034653?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Became a fan of Genkinger before last season, he is one the better linebackers in the region. This kid is a beast and a sideline to sideline backer. He is fast sets the edge and when he blitzes his speed to the ball carrier really stand out. Genkinger will lead the Majors defense again in 2026, he could be one of the top tacklers in Virginia.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/frankgenkinger5/status/1997663533392093419?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Jordan had a really good season averaging over 5 yards per carry for the Majors offense. Another all conference selection, love the way he creates opportunities each time he gets a carry. There are multiple plays below where he appears to be stopped in the backfield and he finds a way out of it. Do not let his somewhat smaller frame at 5'10 fool you, Afryie can knock the crap out of anyone. He is 250 lbs. of muscle and is one of the better pass blockers in the region. He was catching everything during the 1v1 portion and he tested well too. Here is what I wrote back in May about him:</p>   <p><em>I think the Majors have some undervalued dudes on their squad and I will be making a game this year. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2211270' first='Abdul' last='Brown']</strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/abdul-brown/"></a> looked stout in the 1v1 portion he is a stud at 6'1 and 170 lbs.. Ran a 4.8 laser timed 40 and a broad jump over 9 feet, do not sleep on this rising senior. I saw him up close blow past defenders and I loved how he did not want to take one rep off.</em></p>    <p></p>
