Northwest 2027 All-Prospect Team: Defense

Now that the class of 2027 rankings are updated for the class of 2027, it's time to take a look at the Northwest's best prospects at every position.   Here's a look at the 2027 Northwest All-Prospect Defense:   Defensive line   DL: [player_tooltip player_id='1599603' first='Tevita' last='Nonu'], O'Dea (Washington)    DL: [player_tooltip player_id='2101393' first='Achilles' last='Reyna'], Rainier Beach (Oregon)   DL: [player_tooltip player_id='1246545' first='Josh' last='Christensen'], Lake Oswego (Oregon)    DL: [player_tooltip player_id='1188123' first='Ty' last='Tautolo'], Lake Stevens (Uncommitted)   Easily the best position group on either side of the ball, the defensive line is absolutely stacked in the class of 2027.   [player_tooltip player_id='1599603' first='Tevita' last='Nonu'] was viewed as a must-get recruit for Washington, and the Huskies were able to beat out Arizona, UCLA and others for his services.   The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive lineman is a versatile piece to a front, but could develop into a quick, strong defensive tackle on the interior.    Nonu is the top defensive lineman in the region, which is saying something given the quality of the group.   Washington got a really good one.   Reyna is a 6-foot-8, 250-pound athlete who was better known for basketball until he elected to give football a try last season.   He was immediately an impactful presence who showed strength, quickness, balance and surprising pop.   Unsurprisingly, college coaches jumped at the chance to bring in the high-upside prospect, including Arizona, Cal, LSU, Oregon, Oregon State, Texas A&M and others.   Reyna chose the Ducks, joining one of the best recruiting classes in the country.    He's a boom-or-bust guy - a player with an incredibly high ceiling but also a guy who needs to catch up in some of the fundamentals.   Reyna has a Sunday combination of size and athleticism, but still needs to make strides on the basics.    If he's a quick learner - look out!    Christensen blew up last year at The Northwest Showcase earning the overall MVP of a loaded session.   He followed that up by earning TRL Defensive Lineman of the Year and leading his squad to a state title.   The 6-foot-6, 250-pound versatile defensive lineman chose Oregon over Oklahoma, Washington and others.   Christensen has intriguing length and athleticism.   As he adds strength, he has a chance to become an impact defensive lineman in the Big Ten.   Tautolo is uncommitted and holds nearly 20 scholarship offers, led by Arizona, Cal, Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Washington and others.    The 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge didn't take any official visits and his recruitment has been quiet.   It will be fascinating to see where he ends up.     LB: [player_tooltip player_id='791149' first='Kawai' last='Chamberlin'], Willamette (Oregon State)    LB: [player_tooltip player_id='1188110' first='Michael' last='Pulalasi'], Puyallup (Eastern Washington)    LB: [player_tooltip player_id='1568794' first='Drenden' last='Knaevelsrud'], Mount Si (San Diego State)    The linebacking corps is thin in the Northwest this year, but the top of the board is very intriguing.   Willamette linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='791149' first='Kawai' last='Chamberlin'] racked up 118 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, two interceptions and a sack last year.   He'll be the Oregon 6A Defensive Player of the Year favorite this fall.   Chamberlin committed to Oregon State this summer, but has since picked up an offer from Stanford.   When his early season highlights come out, I'd be surprised if he didn't add a few more Power 4 conference offers.   If Oregon State can hang on, he's the defensive headliner of their class.   Regardless of where he goes, PRZ is sky-high on his potential to be an impact player in college.   Like Chamberlin, Pulalasi is the favorite to win Washington's Defensive Player of the Year.   The tone-setting, bone-crushing linebacker was an absolutely dominant force last season, and should be even better as a senior.   Knaevelsrudis is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound ‘backer with an intriguing blend of size and athleticism who should flourish at San Diego State.    DB: [player_tooltip player_id='632957' first='Josiah' last='Molden'], West Linn (Oregon)   DB: [player_tooltip player_id='928074' first='Maurice' last='Williams'], Timberline (Washington)   DB: [player_tooltip player_id='1474331' first='Ben' last='Wiepert'], Wilsonville (New Mexico)   DB: [player_tooltip player_id='1188077' first='Tayven' last='Collins'], Cascade Christian (New Mexico)   Molden has the highest floor of any player in the entire Northwest.   The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback is as polished as they come in high school, thanks to an advanced approach at a young age with his dad, former NFL first-round pick Alex Molden, and his brother Elijah Molden, an NFL defensive back.   Molden has been one of the best defensive players in the entire state since his freshman year in high school and a MaxPreps All-American for his class every year.   He should be a multi-year contributor and feels like a likely NFL player down the road.    Williams is playing for his third team in three years and was limited last season.   But no one should doubt the potential.   He earned an Under Armour DB MVP at a regional camp and has, when healthy, proven to be a complete shutdown corner.   There's a high ceiling for him based on his size and athletic profile, but he does need to stack consecutive solid, healthy seasons at one place to really solidify his stock.   That won't happen in high school, but there's no reason to think he won't thrive at Washington.   Williams could blossom into a star.   New Mexico landed a pair of underrated safeties to Collins and Wiepert, both of whom have delivered borderline Power 4 conference-caliber film.   If either of those players sticks with their current pledge, it's a steal.   If the Lobos land both they could have one of the best secondaries in their conference in a couple of years.
