Welcome to Prep Redzone Oregon's 2026 Football Season Preview series! Over the next several weeks, I'll be highlighting programs from around the state as we count down to kickoff. Let's be honest, 6A football gets plenty of attention, so this series is all about shining a light on the outstanding players, coaches, and programs throughout Oregon's smaller classifications. Over the summer, I reached out to head coaches across the state to learn more about their teams heading into the season. These previews are built using their insight, giving fans a look at each program's expectations, players to watch, and goals for 2026. Every article is based on the coaches who took the time to respond, helping tell the story of their program.

2026 Springfield Millers

After finishing 4-5 last season, the Springfield Millers narrowly missed out on the 5A playoffs, but there is plenty of optimism surrounding the program heading into 2026. Springfield has been competitive in one of Oregon's tougher 5A districts, and another year of development could be enough to push the Millers back into postseason contention. While head coach Frank Geske kept things simple when discussing his team, it is clear this roster features several versatile athletes capable of making an impact on both sides of the football.

One thing that stands out about Springfield is the number of players who contribute in multiple phases of the game. Whether on offense, defense, or special teams, the Millers have several athletes who rarely leave the field. If that versatility translates into wins this fall, Springfield could surprise people in SD5.

Collier anchors the defensive front with a physical presence at 6'1" and 245 pounds. Coach Geske described him as an intense player, and that mindset should help set the tone in the trenches. He will be counted on to help Springfield control the line of scrimmage this season.

Hernandez brings versatility and explosiveness to Springfield's lineup. Coach Geske described him as strong, quick, and dynamic with the ball in his hands, making him a threat whether he is lining up at receiver, returning kicks, or contributing in the secondary. Expect him to be one of the players capable of producing game-changing plays.

Kasperek is one of Springfield's most intriguing all-around athletes and will have an opportunity to impact the game in every phase. At 6'2" and 200 pounds, he brings good size to the linebacker position while also contributing offensively at running back. Coach Geske also believes Kasperek has the ability to play at the college level as a punter, making him a unique prospect to keep an eye on this season.

At 6'3", 255 pounds, Nelson has the size and athleticism to be a difference-maker up front. Coach Geske called him a great athlete, and his combination of movement skills and frame gives Springfield a strong foundation along the offensive line. He will be an important piece as the Millers look to establish consistency offensively.

Rhoades is another two-way contributor who embodies the physical style Springfield wants to play with. Coach Geske highlighted his outstanding work ethic, and such players often become the backbone of successful programs. His ability to contribute on both offense and defense should make him a key piece for the Millers this fall.

Wickersham will lead the offense after earning praise for his accuracy as a passer. An accurate quarterback can keep an offense on schedule, and Springfield will look for him to distribute the football efficiently to its playmakers. If he continues to develop, he has the tools to help the Millers take another step offensively.

Leata may be the definition of a football player. Capable of lining up at quarterback, receiver, linebacker, or safety, his versatility gives Springfield plenty of options on both sides of the ball. Coach Geske also praised his motor, and players who consistently play with that type of effort tend to find ways to impact games.

Stroud projects as one of the top defensive playmakers for Springfield. Coach Geske believes he has the potential to play cornerback at the college level, a testament to his athleticism and coverage ability. He also provides value as a running back, giving the Millers another dependable two-way athlete.

Springfield may have fallen just short of the postseason a year ago, but the Millers return a roster filled with versatile athletes and experienced contributors. If this group can put everything together, don't be surprised if Springfield finds itself back in the playoff conversation when the 2026 season reaches November. Springfield opens up the season at home vs Bend on September 4th
