North East Carolina Prep 2026 Season Preview

From <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/07/mallard-creek-2026-season-preview/">state title contenders</a> to <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/07/christ-the-king-2026-season-preview/">small-school dark horses</a>, we aim to cover all of the Tar Heel State. One thing we haven't done in a few years, though, is preview a <em>new</em> team.</p>   <p>North East Carolina Prep enters its first year of competitive football in nearly a decade, but the Huskies could be one of the better teams in the 1A class in 2026.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">North East Carolina Prep Huskies Season Preview</h2>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Key Info</h3>   <p><strong>Head Coach: </strong>Zane Rowland (First Season)</p>   <p><strong>2025 Record:</strong> N/A</p>   <p><strong>2026 Conference:</strong> Eastern Carolina 1A</p>   <p><strong>Returning Starters (Offense)</strong>: N/A</p>   <p><strong>Returning Starters (Defense)</strong>: N/A</p>   <p><strong>Key Games: </strong>vs. Bear Grass Charter (9/11), @ Wilson Prep (10/9), @ Washington County (10/16), </p>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Key Storyline</h3>   <p>North East Carolina Prep is new to the 1A scene and will be dropped in one of the smallest regions, one dominated by state champion Wilson Prep last season. But the Huskies won't look like your typical 1A school, especially on offense.</p>   <p>The Huskies should play at a faster tempo than the average small school. They'll also throw the ball more than you'd expect from a 1A school. It remains to be seen if that will work, but the Huskies should be different than most of the other teams in the 1A class.</p>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Key Contributors</h3>   <p>Since the Huskies haven't played a varsity game, I'm basing my preview on what I've heard and expect to see. We can't really break the team into stars and sleepers because few of these players, even key contributors, have much film to evaluate. Here are a few guys I expect to thrive in 2026.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Rowland has the chance to be not only one of the top playmakers in the Eastern Carolina 1A conference, but in the entire 1A classification. He's a two-time All-Region honoree in the state of Georgia and is a true dual-threat passer. In fact, if we're counting yardage in other states, Rowland enters the 2026 season first in the 1A class in career passing yardage. He's also electric with the ball in his hands, and that athletic ability has earned him multiple scholarship opportunities.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Shipman doesn't have any film, as he's actually new to the sport, but he's expected to be a main contributor at receiver in 2026. He can run, with a verified 40 in the low 4.6s without much combine training. He has natural hands and a feel for how to get open.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Horne has good size and should be a key contributor on offense and perhaps defense, as well. While he started his career as an interior offensive lineman, he's the expected left tackle starter, a guy who should make space in the running game and give his quarterback time in the pocket.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Despite being on the smaller side, Avent has good contact balance and explosive qualities. The Huskies' passing game should afford him some lighter boxes to run into, and with his speed, he's a threat to break off long runs if he can get to the second or third level. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Arrington is a true slot receiver who can make people miss with the ball in his hands. He's a big-play threat, but can also operate underneath as a reliable option. He should earn some manufactured touches, and he's looked dangerous in 7-on-7s this offseason. He should be a key part of both the passing game and could get a few handoffs, as well.</p>    <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Other Names To Know</h3>   <p><strong>Dylan Parks</strong> | TE/LB</p>   <p><strong>Gavin Ward</strong> | Ath.</p>   <p><strong>RJ Dupree</strong> | WR/DB</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">North East Carolina Prep's 2026 Outlook</h2>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Team Strength</h3>   <p>Especially at the 1A level, you won't find many teams with the confidence, willingness, and personnel to put the ball in the air consistently. But I expect the Huskies to air it out more than the average 1A team. That can give them a distinct advantage, with a full array of playmakers on the outside.</p>   <p>Arrington provides a true slot option (most 1A teams don't line up in 10 or 11 personnel enough to even have a slot receiver), while Shipman adds speed, and tight end Dylan Parks gives some size. When Rowland gets going, he can be nearly impossible to stop, and there's enough talent around him for the offense to be one of the best in the class.</p>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Question Marks</h3>   <p>The entire team.</p>   <p>It's not a slight; it's a legitimate question. Two things are true:</p>   <p>1. The Huskies have a ton of talented, athletic players. <br>2. The Huskies have one player (Rowland) with even a single play of game film.</p>   <p>NECP will rely on a blend of inexperienced underclassmen and new-to-football seniors. The upside is there, but with so little proven production, there's a wide range of possible outcomes for the Huskies' return to varsity football.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Verdict</h2>   <p>We'll have a good idea of how much talent North East Carolina Preps has fairly early in the season. The Huskies ease into the season before facing one of the better teams in the 1A class in Bear Grass Charter. Wilson Prep should once again be the 1A favorite, which makes a conference championship unlikely for the Huskies. Still, they should win plenty of games, given Rowland's talent at quarterback and what should be a dynamic offense.</p>   <p>I have real questions about the defense, especially up front, which probably limits their upside against some of the class' top teams, but it should be a strong start for a young team. It's really a question of whether the athletic talent can transfer to the field.</p>   <p><em>A huge thanks to North East Carolina Preps head coach Zane Rowland for sharing his thoughts on his team.
