Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='1656906' first='Ryder' last='Meeks'], ATH, Lisbon

Announced offers: Simpson College.

The Situation: Meeks has been on our Prep Redzone radar since seeing him at the Back2Ballin 7v7 tournament in 2025. We wateched him making plays at the event again this spring. As a Lisbon junior last fall, Meeks was named first-team all-district at Utility. He rushed 124 times for 600 yards and six touchdowns in accumulating 1,052 all-purpose yards. Meeks had 27.5 tackles. He could develop into a playmaker with the ball in his hands or a productive member of the secondary on the next level. He's fast and quick with agility. His frame can comfortably fill out while holding the athleticism that helped him finish eighth at the state wrestling tournament.

Simpson College offered him an opportunity on June 10. North Dakota State, Coe and Buena Vista invited him to campus.

[player_tooltip player_id='1617630' first='Hunter' last='Minner'], DL/LB, Ankeny

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: With a fastball already reaching into the low 90s with life, Minner is one of the state's top baseball players. Don't sleep on his prospects for a football future, however. The Ankeny senior is a disruptive defender capable of fitting on the defensive line or as a linebacker, depending on the college scheme. It's a projectable frame capable of adding mass and strength without the loss of agility and explosiveness.

Minner appears prepared for another sizable step forward in a prep program know for development. It could pay off for college football outfits keeping an eye on it this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1621106' first='Nathan' last='Moon'], ATH, Clarksville

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: The eight-player game can be a tricky evaluation for college coaches. That said, it's well worth their time. There are players on that level fully capable of enhancing their rosters. Moon is a case in point. He's established as one of the state's most productive running backs. A combination of strength and speed leads to success. It's a set of skills that make him a thrive at rugby and would translate well to other positions on the football field. Special teams' contributions can be expected early on the next level.

While colleges have been slow to recruit Moon, there's time on this ever-changing recruiting landscape for them to dig a little deeper here. It's worth their effort.

[player_tooltip player_id='2090453' first='Trent' last='Morey'], ATH, West Bend-Mallard

Announced offers: Buena Vista, McPherson.

The Situation: Another eight-player dynamo with dynamite upside, Morey could develop into a playmaker in a college secondary or with the ball in his hands. Quarterback, running back and receiver all are possibilities on that side of the ball. Safety, hybrid or slot cornerback are options on defense. There's room to fill out a projectable frame while keeping the speed, agility and athleticism leading to current success.

Buena Vista and McPherson like the possibilities so much that they have offered opportunities. He's visited Simpson, Upper Iowa and Graceland. Plenty of other schools have shown interest.

[player_tooltip player_id='1617705' first='Charlie' last='Morgan'], DL, Ottumwa

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Morgan was a first-team all-district pick as a sophomore and followed it up with more honors a year ago. He ate up space on the defensive line, producing 17 solo tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery along the way. Power and athleticism are big parts of his game. The latter can be illustrated in him picking off two passes last year as a D-Lineman. The potential pops off of the junior highlight video from the beginning and carries on throughout. Morgan utilizes his hands well and gets off of the ball quickly, often putting opponents on their heels right away.

Morgan isn't publicly reporting any college interest. If he's getting some and keeping it private, that's cool. If he's not being noticed, it's long overdue.
