Lawrence North v. HSE Scrimmage: Top Performers

The Royals and Wildcats squared off and featured several top players on both teams who are looking to do big things in Class 6A ball this season. Didn't like him when I saw in-person last year in game v. Pike, Was mostly just a big body running around and not making much impact but yesterday he flashed great effort and has made big strides forward in all facets of his game over the past year, notably with effort and constantly being around the ball when he aligns at safety. Very wide catch radius and height presents serious matchup problems and wins one-on-one battles with great leaping ability. Has developed into a great blocker with a mean streak, can take corners for a ride to the sideline, very good finisher. Very skinny and lanky; hasn't gained much weight over the past couple of years; Hoosiers will need to add bulk to his frame. For as good as he can be on offense, he actually performed better on defense and seems to have embraced being a two-way player. Delivered a couple of heavy hits, flashed a nose for the ball and had two interceptions. Good twitch and burst off the LOS, solid route runner who can create separation and get behind secondaries for touchdowns. Will earn his keep in the slot. On defense, flashes good ball skills, had several breakups, times the ball with his hands and isn't afraid to be physical. Confident and savvy player with upside. Has had back-to-back great seasons and really popped last year, and figures to be even better as a senior. Very slippery tailback with excellent vision, change-of-direction and burst. Can really break some ankles and make potential tacklers miss. Knock on him is his size, but love everything about his game. Coach thinks he has potential if he grows into his frame. Flashes being able to roll hips into blocks, engage with opposing DEs and create vertical push in the run game. Develop as a pass protector. Good first-step quickness. Adequate hand placement and strike timing. Work on balance but is a high-effort player and good finisher.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
