Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='1199300' first='Amari' last='Marshall'], OL, Bettendorf

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Marshall is among the most under-recruited student-athletes in Iowa's 2027 class. If you don't believe me, pop on the junior film. The Bettendorf offensive lineman looks agile and athletic lining up left tackle for one of the state's top big school programs. That alone should have your attention. Then, when seeing the present production mixed with the potential for more, it's obvious there's a prospect here that should be getting more college attention. Maybe he continues developing at tackle on the next level. It's also a frame capable of adding good weight and strength without the loss of mobility. A move inside would come with an even higher ceiling.

Simpson reached out to invite him to camp this summer. That's the only interest he's reported. That's very surprising.

[player_tooltip player_id='1942263' first='Jace' last='Maxwell'], ATH, Interstate 35

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Maxwell is still a prospect flying under the radar as it relates to college interest. Perhaps his operating at a small school that flys under the radar on the Iowa prep football landscape contributes to the oversight. He produced as an Interstate 35 junior in 2025, rushing for 604 Yards (4.8 YPC) and 10 touchdowns, and registering 33.5 tackles, 26 of which were of the solo variety, and 4.0 tackles for loss. Maxwell's 11th-grade highlight video reveals his talents as a versatile athlete capable of contributing to a college program in multiple ways. He could be a weapon with the ball in his hands or might develop into a play-making member of the secondary. Special teams' contributions also can be expected.

Buena Vista played host to Maxwell for a game last fall. He took in junior days a St. Thomas and Upper Iowa.

[player_tooltip player_id='1848962' first='Roston' last='McCarty'], QB, PCM

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: McCarty is a college/professional baseball prospect. The big lefty can sling it from the hill and shows promise with the bat as well. Perhaps that has slowed his football recruiting, but it shouldn't. He flashes a nice amount of upside lining up behind the center as is evidenced during his junior highlight video. Not surprisingly based on fastball velocity, McCarty pushes the ball down the field with ease. It's more than a power arm, however. There's touch on the ball and feel in the pocket. A good athlete, McCarty can extended plays with his legs and pick up yards on the ground if the field opens up.

He's only reporting interest from Dordt to date. The Defenders are ahead of the game on this one.

[player_tooltip player_id='1706481' first='Collin' last='McKie'], K/P, Solon

Announced offers: Simpson.

The Situation: Solon won its first 11 games last season before running into eventual-champion Nevada in the state semifinals. The Spartans were strong in all three phases with McKie playing a huge role in the special teams' success. The junior averaged 43.4 yards on 20 punts, which earned him first-team all-state recognition. He also contributed as a the back-up place kicker, where he has a chance to start this year. You can witness the lefty's work during his 11th-grade highlight video.

On June 25, Simpson became the first school to offer McKie an opportunity to play on the next level. He attended a South Dakota State junior day in early February and was invited to Dubuque, Winona State, Bemidji State, UW-Whitewater and Eastern Illinois.

[player_tooltip player_id='1844927' first='Ethan' last='McNeal'], ATH, Atlantic

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: McNeal put together junior football and track seasons at Atlantic that should be garnering more interest along the recruiting trail. He rushed for 1,331 yards (6.6 YPC) and 14 touchdowns, and added a receiving score. He averaged 27.8 yards on nine kick returns, taking one of them to the house. The speed and explosion leading to success on the gridiron carried over to the oval. He's qualified twice for Drake Relays and five times at the state track meet. His attractive set of schools shine through during his 11th-grade football highlight video. The upside as a playmaker with the ball in his hands with the added benefit of his ability as a returner are worthy of more attention from programs on the next level.

McNeal camped at Northwest Missouri State last month. That's the only college interest he's reported. Perhaps a big senior season will alert more staffs that there's plenty of value here.
