The growing pains showed throughout the year, but the season also provided valuable varsity experience for many players who will return in 2026. Hurricane lost only a handful of key seniors, allowing the majority of the roster to come back with a full season of development under its belt. That continuity gives the Redskins optimism as they look to take a step forward this fall.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2026 SCHEDULE</h2>   9/4: vs George Washington 9/11: at Parkersburg 9/18: vs Huntington 9/25: vs Cabell Midland 10/2: at St. Albans 10/9: at Parkersburg South 10/16: vs Oak Hill 10/23: vs Riverside 10/30: vs Princeton 11/6: vs Spring Valley   2025 Record: 1-9 2026 Prediction: 3-7   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2026 OUTLOOK</h2>   Expect Hurricane to show noticeable improvement in 2026 after enduring the growing pains that came with a young, inexperienced roster last season. The Redskins return the bulk of that group, giving them valuable continuity and a foundation to build upon. A quality senior class, combined with several talented underclassmen, should help raise the level of play on both sides of the ball. While the overall record may not improve dramatically against a challenging schedule, Hurricane has the pieces to be far more competitive each week and continue building momentum for the future.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">COLLEGE PROSPECTS TO KNOW</h2>    RETURNING STANDOUT   2027 Hurricane LB/EDGE Devon Short enters his senior season as the leader of the Redskins and the tone-setter for their defense. A multi-year starter and Second Team All-MSAC selection as a junior, Short gives Hurricane a proven player who can impact the game from multiple spots along the front seven. His experience and production will be counted on as the Redskins look to turn last year's valuable lessons into more competitive football this fall. A strong senior campaign should also put Short firmly in the conversation for All-State honors while drawing increased attention from college programs.      RETURNING STANDOUT   2027 Hurricane WR/DB Dylan Widen gives the Redskins a proven weapon on the outside heading into his senior season. A Second Team All-MSAC selection a year ago, Widen uses his length to create matchup problems and provides the offense with a reliable target in the passing game. With another year in the system and a full offseason under the new coaching staff, he's in a great position to build on last season's success. Widen is one of the more under-the-radar seniors in the state and has the potential to attract more attention with a strong final campaign.      RETURNING STANDOUT   2027 Hurricane QB/ATH Isaiah Kutscher returns as the Redskins' starting quarterback after gaining valuable experience during a difficult junior season. Earning Special Honorable Mention All-MSAC, Kutscher showed the ability to make plays with both his arm and legs while being thrown into a challenging situation. Another offseason in the weight room should help him add the size and strength needed to become an even more effective dual-threat quarterback. With a year of starting experience now behind him, Kutscher has the potential to put together a breakout senior season and help lead Hurricane's improvement in 2026.      BREAKOUT CANDIDATE   One senior who could quietly put together a strong season is 2027 Hurricane DB Jahmarion Stevens. Limited game film has kept him under the radar, but the flashes on tape suggest there's more to his game. With another year of experience and an expanded opportunity, Stevens has a chance to emerge as one of the Redskins' top defenders in the secondary. If he builds on those flashes and puts together a full season of quality film, don't be surprised if college programs begin taking a much closer look this fall.      RETURNING STANDOUT   Returning stability up front starts with 2027 Hurricane OL Kamdyn Womack, who is back at center for his senior season. Though undersized, Womack plays with toughness and a bulldog mentality that sets the tone in the trenches. His experience will be invaluable for an offensive line looking to build on the continuity gained last year, and he'll be counted on as one of the senior leaders of the offense. Womack has the type of mentality and competitiveness that should keep him on the radar of small college programs throughout the fall.      RETURNING STANDOUT   One of the biggest reasons for optimism in Hurricane's offense is 2028 WR Riley Armstrong. After eclipsing 1,000 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns as a sophomore, Armstrong has already established himself as one of the Redskins' top offensive weapons. With another year alongside returning quarterback Isaiah Kutscher, the chemistry in the passing game should only continue to improve. As Hurricane looks to take a step forward offensively, expect Armstrong to remain the go-to playmaker capable of producing explosive plays every Friday night.      RETURNING STANDOUT   One of the biggest building blocks in Hurricane's program is 2028 OL Cooper Ryan. Ryan returns after earning First Team All-MSAC honors as a sophomore and gives the Redskins a cornerstone in the trenches. He'll be relied upon to anchor the offensive line at 6'4 300 as Hurricane looks to take a step forward this fall, and his presence up front should help set the tone for the offense. While we're still waiting for game film to better evaluate his long-term ceiling, Ryan is already one of the top college prospects on the roster and a player to know over the next two seasons.     BREAKOUT CANDIDATE   A young defender ready to build on an encouraging freshman season is 2029 Hurricane LB Tanner Runyan. After gaining valuable varsity experience a year ago, Runyan enters the fall with the chance to carve out an even bigger role in the Redskins' defense. His athleticism and instincts allow him to cover ground quickly, and he has already shown the ability to make plays in space while also contributing at tight end. As Hurricane's young core continues to grow together, Runyan has the potential to become one of the leaders of the defense over the next few seasons.      BREAKOUT CANDIDATE   2029 Hurricane DB Cael Sack is another young player the Redskins can build around moving forward. After earning valuable varsity snaps as a freshman, Sack enters the season with the opportunity to expand his role on both sides of the ball. His long 6'3 175 frame gives him intriguing upside in the secondary, while his athleticism also creates options at wide receiver if needed. As Hurricane's young core continues to mature, expect Sack to develop into one of the program's more impactful players over the years.      BREAKOUT CANDIDATE   2029 QB/ATH Archer Altizer is a new face in the Hurricane program and gives the Redskins another promising young quarterback to develop for the future. After transferring from Chapmanville, Altizer arrives with experience leading the Tigers' JV offense and the athleticism to make plays both inside and outside the pocket. While he'll compete for QB opportunities this fall, his biggest impact could come on defense for the Redskins in 2026. As Hurricane continues developing its young talent, Altizer is a player with the tools to become a key part of the program over the next few seasons.      BREAKOUT CANDIDATE   2029 Hurricane TE/K Paxton Bocook is one of the more versatile young players in the Redskins' program. Bocook enters the season as a developmental prospect with the ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game. We like his long-term fit at tight end, where his frame gives him the potential to develop into both a dependable blocker and reliable receiving option, while his kicking ability could fill their opening at kicker this season.
