Top In-State Targets Shine at Notre Dame's Irish Invasion Camp

Notre Dame held their annual Irish Invasion camp on Friday night. While media members were not allowed on the field and were required to leave ahead of one-on-ones, we were able to take a few notes during the individual period of the camp on Indiana prospects who were invited. Here's a look at four prospects who stood out:    North Central quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1866976' first='Chase' last='Grove'] is a player we continue to be wow'd by. Under a high-pressure situation and with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli watching on, Grove delivered at the camp with his arm, accuracy, touch on the deep ball and velocity over the middle of the field. We continue to be impressed by his progress over the offseason as a prospect who keeps getting better and better. Grove is very accurate, throws a very catchable pass, and has a quick release. Expect big things to come for the in-state quarterback this fall as he hopes to take North Central's football team to new heights.     In-state Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2061150' first='Nic' last='Hoggs'] was a standout during the individual period. What stands out about Hoggs is his speed, explosiveness twitch and juice. The 5-foot-9, 167-pound receiver was silky-smooth in and out of his breaks. Hoggs holds an early offer from Bowling Green State.     In-state linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1881519' first='Austin' last='Phillips'] out of Kendalville, Ind,/East Noble High School was a standout. Friday evening was my second time seeing Phillips in a week after watching him at an Indiana camp on Tuesday, and the 6-foot-2, 215-linebacker has the goods. One Indiana staffer commented to me that “He already looks like one of our guys,” and evidently Notre Dame agreed. Phillips is the total package at linebacker: instinctive, quick to read-and-react, gets downhill in a hurry, and is a great open-field tackler. He had a tremendous freshman year totaling 99 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles and had 967 yards rushing on offense to boot. It's no surprise that Notre Dame offered after the camp.     We haven't seen [player_tooltip player_id='2120883' first='Joshua' last='Rogers'] yet, so Irish Invasion was our first chance to see the listed 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect. Rogers is a very good pass rusher with very good athletic ability. He has a quick first step and great get-off. Rogers is strong at the point-of-attack, encircles opposing offensive tackles, plays at a low pad level and wraps up. San Diego State, UConn, Boston College and Miami-Ohio are some of his recent offers.
