We released our long-overdue 2027 rankings update a few days ago, and with that came several players who boosted their stock since the last go-around. Our last 2027 update was in December, so there have definitely been a lot of player development, recruiting updates, and standout camp performances that have helped prospects turn heads.

Gretna East trench warrior [player_tooltip player_id='1075677' first='Caden' last='Boyer'] jumps up several spots after a string of successful camp sessions this offseason. Caden has upside on both offense and defense, but projects best on the defensive line, where he can consistently disrupt opposing offenses with his intense motor. As a junior, Caden recorded 18 tackles, a TFL, a sack, and a forced fumble, but had an impact on the field that went deeper than the stat sheet. Boyer does a great job eating up space on the DL as he possesses a powerful base, uses his leverage very well, and has the ability to plug up double gaps. I was also impressed with Caden's versatility: he can line up directly over the center, put him over the A gap, or even line him up against a tackle. He attacks with violent hands at the point of contact and knows how to use them to disengage from blockers. Great closing speed to get after the ball carrier. Offensively, Caden is a nasty finisher who is constantly looking to end with pancake blocks. His lateral quickness makes him very effective on pull blocks and when climbing to the second level to seal off LBs. Caden has earned offers from Northern State, Nebraska-Kearney, Southeast Missouri State, Wayne State, and Southwest Minnesota State. Baller in the trenches who is heating up quickly!

Norris [player_tooltip player_id='1986591' first='Anden' last='Papik'] has been catching the attention of several programs this offseason, earning a solid offer list so far. The Norris prospect had a solid junior season in which he recorded 27 tackles, three TFLs, three sacks, and three forced fumbles. Anden stands out immediately with his taller, leaner frame at 6'5", 225 pounds with excellent length to play the edge and square off with tackles. He is able to win at the LOS using his twitch to finesse his way into opposing backfields. Once he's able to disengage from his opponent, Papik does a great job using his explosive burst to close on the ball carrier quickly. Anden is solid at the point of contact with good tackling technique and power to deliver some mean licks. Anden could also see an increased role on offense where his size and athleticism will make him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Papik has earned offers from Minnesota State-Mankato, Missouri Western State, Sioux Falls, Nebraska-Kearney, Northwest Missouri State, and Wayne State. Get after this guy ASAP!

The Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays should once again have a buzzsaw on defense as they return key defenders like senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='2110878' first='Andrew' last='Beranek']. As a junior, Andrew recorded 43 tackles, six TFLs, a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble. The one thing that kept popping into my head when watching Andrew's junior tape was "effort". Andrew has the type of tireless motor and pursuit for the ball that you love to see out of your linebackers. He is very gap sound and does a great job reading his keys before shooting his gap. Once he's locked in on his target, Beranek displayed excellent range and burst that can help him fire to the ball. Andrew flashes the strength to fight through blockers at the LOS while keeping his eyes up and tracking the ball. When Andrew hits, he can hit like a truck while not compromising his technique or form when going for the stop. A true throwback at linebacker who can lay the wood!

The Elkhorn Antlers will look to lean heavily on seniors like [player_tooltip player_id='1297798' first='Brady' last='Mataele'] to help right the ship after a down season. Although Brady played a limited role as a junior, it's clear to see the upside he brings to the field playing the tight end position. Brady is effective both as a pass catcher and as a blocker, showing he can move the chains with a quick catch over the middle or serve as a lead blocker in the run game. He has solid size and length at 6'2" and 210 pounds, giving him a good catch radius to work with and the strength to be physical at the catch point. Mataele's size also makes him tough to bring down on initial contact, opening the way for him to tack on some YAC. I was very impressed with the mean streak he showed as a blocker. Brady flashed good hand placement, use of leverage, and leg drive to move defenders off the ball. He's also always looking to finish his blocks in the dirt or play through the whistle. Brady received his first offer from William Jewell earlier this month. Hidden gem in a sleeper TE class!

Grand Island Northwest receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1297110' first='James' last='Buhrman'] makes the move from the watchlist to the rankings in the latest update. James had a productive junior season in which he ended as the team's second leading receiver, hauling in 22 receptions, 243 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. I was very impressed with James' route-running ability as he showed he can attack all levels of the field and can create separation at the top of the route. He utilizes good footwork, which helps him get a clean release at the LOS, and carries that through the entirety of the route. James also has very good hands that seemed to catch everything coming his way from passes outside his frame, catches in traffic, catches while bracing for contact, and even some that required top-tier body control to adjust to the pass. Good twitch and elusiveness after the catch with a solid burst that can lead to big gains. At 6'0" and 180 pounds, James can match up well across the board and hold his own against physical DBs trying to press him. James is still holding out for his first offer, but that will likely change soon.
