Taking a similar theme to the small-school OL article we wrote 2 weeks ago, we move to the other side of the trenches taking look at the DL prospects across the smaller, overlooked schools in MN that have made their name by penetrating the offensive line and disrupting the pocket while also flashing the skill and athleticism that could help their skillsets translate very well at the next level. We take a look at 8 small-school DL prospects to keep an eye on in 2026!

The departure of Roman Voss leaves a gaping hole on the Huskies' roster, but they still boast an exceptional amount of talent to help fill in their supporting cast, including [player_tooltip player_id='2126061' first='Michael' last='Reipke']. Reipke saw most of his playing time at DT, and while certainly a bit undersized to play on the interior, Reipke was effective in this role throughout most of last season, being able to consistently drive blockers backward, keep his feet moving, and showing aggression at the point of attack. A natural bull-rusher with a high-functioning motor, Reipke could be flexible moving to the Edge as well, but with his presence, there is no doubt that the Huskies should remain in contention even without their prized playmaker on the team going forward.

An effective two-way player on the trenches, [player_tooltip player_id='2127742' first='Elijah' last='Bjur'] has thrived in the interior playing at both Center and Nose Guard while also serving as the team's long snapper. The all-district lineman flashes solid strength in the weight room, posting a 235 lb max bench and a 365 lb max squat. On the field, Bjur proved to be a stout, but potent defender taking on the A and B gaps, consistently being able to plug up those holes and limit the inside run, using his raw strength to bull through blockers, while also having a knack for shutting down the screen game and batting down passes at the LOS. Bjur should remain as the head of a very strong group of big-bodies for the Falcons that should continue to excel in 2026.

While he didn't see a ton of playing time playing behind a loaded roster, Wyatt Moorse flashed the makings of an elite piece in the trenches for the Vikings' defense as they look to extend their streak of success. A big body with impressive speed and aggression, Moorse boasts the frame of a D1 caliber prospect, playing with a low stance, exploding off the snap, and showing good hand-fighting skills to get off the blocks and into the backfield. With a full season's worth of reps in 2026, Moorse's value should surge greatly toward a late recruiting push.

Breck Martin has bulked up greatly over this last year, and saw a substantial amount of playing time for the Stings, and he should emerge as a regular starter on the varsity defense entering his sophomore season. Boasting a huge frame for his age, Martin uses it well, playing with tenaciousness, but also showcasing the ability to twist and stunt on the line, and flashing a knack for batting down passes at the LOS using his lengthy wingspan. Martin has quickly emerged as a standout among the struggling Stings, and he should be a force to be reckoned with going forward.

Despite playing on a winless team in 2025, Landon Pederson flashed as one of the few bright spots for the Falcons. A flexible defensive lineman that can line up at both DE and DT, Pederson proved to be very solid at the point of attack, while possessing the flexibility and athleticism to fight through his blocks and be able to spin and churn his way through defenders to gain leverage even after losing the first step to get in the path of the ball-carrier and minimize the run-game. Pederson could definitely use some bulk to help win more of his matchups to beat blockers on that first step, which will make him that much more effective plugging up the run-game.

Thor Thompson saw limited playing time behind one of the most dominant defenses in the 1A conference, but he flashed a lot of potential to help sustain the Rebels going forward. In limited reps, Thompson recorded 12 tackles, a TFL, and a Safety on defense. Thompson stood out as a prominent figure in the Rebels' run game that averaged over 260 rushing yards per game last season, but he proved to be effective on the other side of the trenches as well, possessing the quickness and length to excel on the defensive line, though he may be better suited on the Edge than at his current DT position. Thompson is slated to move into a full-time starting role in 2026, and it will be intriguing to see how Thompson performs with a full-year's worth of reps.

While he didn't see much playing time as a sophomore, with the limited reps he did see, Odin Winter flashed a lot of potential, recording 9 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries in 2025 over the first 2 games. While we don't have much for tape on Winter, he flashed as a DE/DT hybrid, using his hands well to shed off blocks, playing with a high motor, and being able to create turnovers for the defense with his ability to track and take the ball away. Winter should remain a key force for the Fighting Saints' defense going forward.

Staying with the Fighting Saints, we had mentioned Eero Nelson as a potential breakout candidate after seeing playing time at DE, TE, and Long Snapper during his freshman season. Nelson saw a substantial amount of varsity playing time as a freshman, and he showed a lot of upside, with his lengthy frame and quickness helping him win his matchups and create pressure in the passing game, and that frame can certainly utilize more mass to it to make him more dangerous. Nelson clearly flashes the most potential on the Edge, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Nelson become a regular piece of the Fighting Saints' defense going forward.
