The release of our inaugural 2029 Top 100 rankings provides an early look at some of the top young talent across West Virginia. With most of these prospects just beginning their high school careers, evaluations are based on a combination of freshman film, camp performances, live exposures, athletic traits, and long-term upside. At this stage, projection plays a large role, but there is already plenty of talent emerging throughout the state. These rankings are far from final and will continue to evolve as players gain experience, develop physically, and put more film out for evaluation. For now, this serves as our first look at the names we believe have positioned themselves among the top prospects in the Class of 2029.

Don't be surprised if 2029 Moorefield RB Bill Ware is much higher than his current #6 running back ranking a year from now. Ware already brings an appealing combination of size and athleticism to the position, and the flashes he showed early in his career show there is plenty more to come. His burst and speed stand out on film, allowing him to hit creases quickly and break off for explosive plays. Moorefield has a strong young core, and Ware appears to be another prospect capable of making a significant impact for four years. The ranking reflects where he is today, but his ceiling is considerably higher than where he currently sits.

2029 Parkersburg South TE Titan Baruwa is one of the more intriguing young tight end prospects to follow after a strong freshman season on the Patriots' freshman and JV teams. Baruwa spent much of his time functioning as a bigger receiving target, and that pass-catching ability was an encouraging aspect of his film. He tracked the ball well and looked capable of creating mismatches against smaller defenders. He already has the size to transition naturally into a full-time tight end role at 6'2 205 as he continues to develop. There is still more to learn about his ability as a blocker, but the receiving foundation is certainly there. If he can round out the rest of his game, Baruwa has the athleticism and frame to become a valuable weapon in the Patriots' offense.

2029 Independence OL Kayden Cyrus won't wow people with measurables right now, but his film shows a player with plenty of early ability. Cyrus is a physical interior lineman who plays with good play strength for his age and brings a finisher's mentality to every snap. He does a nice job winning the leverage battle, allowing him to hold his own against bigger opponents and create movement in the run game. The way he plays fits exactly what you expect from an Independence lineman, as toughness and effort consistently show up on film. While there is still physical growth ahead of him, the foundation of a quality offensive lineman is already there. Given the Patriots' track record of developing players up front, Cyrus is a name worth keeping tabs on as he progresses through high school.

2029 Capital DL Cartier Smith made an impact on both sides of the ball as a freshman, but his future may be brightest along the defensive line. Smith was one of the top performers at our Exposure Series and showed why he ranks among the top young interior DL in the state. He brings 5'8 360 size to the middle of a defense and is difficult to move off the ball. Offensive linemen are forced to match his physicality every snap, and he can clog running lanes when teams try to attack inside. Smith's size and power make him a unique prospect in the class, and a player offenses will have to account for throughout his career.

2029 Spring Mills WR/DB Demari Williams is one of several young Cardinals who could see their role increase as opportunities open up this season. Williams spent last season on the JV team and showed enough ability to earn a spot among the top young prospects to know. He begins ranked at receiver, but there is legitimate two-way potential in his game, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him make an impact in the secondary as well. Williams is still developing as a player, but his ceiling is higher than where he currently sits in the rankings. Spring Mills will be looking for younger players to step forward this year, and he looks like someone capable of taking advantage of that opportunity. The more film that becomes available, the better feel we'll get for where his future is brightest, but Williams is a name worth following closely this season.

Followers of the Brooke program are already familiar with the Sperringer name, and 2029 Brooke QB/ATH Kamden Sperringer looks poised to continue that tradition. Following in the footsteps of his older brothers Braelyn and Ty, Sperringer has already begun carving out his own path after seeing varsity action as a freshman athlete. While his future appears to be at quarterback, the early varsity experience at other positions should only help him as he prepares for a larger role down the road. Sperringer has good size for his age and possesses the physical tools to develop into a productive starter. There is still plenty of growth ahead, but the traits are there to be excited about. If everything comes together, don't be surprised if the Bruins have another Sperringer leading the offense in the years to come.

Few players in this range offer more two-way upside than 2029 Parkersburg RB/LB Tyreke Glover. Glover has already shown flashes of becoming a difference-maker on both sides of the ball, giving the Big Reds a prospect they can build around over the next few seasons. Running back feels like his current best outlook is, where his combination of speed and power stands out for his age. His wrestling background is another positive, as it shows up in the way he plays through contact and competes physically. Glover has the traits to be productive in multiple roles, but the ceiling as a ball carrier is what makes him especially exciting. As he gains more experience and opportunities, expect him to emerge as one of the top all-around athletes in the class.

Musselman may have another playmaker in 2029 ATH Jahkobi Warren, coming up through their ranks. Ranked as the #6 ATH in the class, Warren brings versatility that should allow him to impact the game in several different ways as his career progresses. Running back and slot receiver appear to be his most natural fits right now, but his background as a youth quarterback also gives the Applemen flexibility to utilize him in creative ways in their single-wing. Warren is at his best with the ball in his hands, where his quickness and elusive running style can create problems for defenders in space, as he has the type of skill set that doesn't always need a lot of touches to influence a game. As he earns varsity opportunities, Warren has a chance to become one of the more dynamic weapons in the class.

There may not be a bigger projection in this range than 2029 Spring Mills DB Adam Banire. With limited game film available, much of his evaluation comes from what we saw in person at the Exposure Series, where he was one of the top defensive back performers in attendance. There are still areas of his game that will improve with experience, which is expected for a player entering only his second year of high school football. If he carries the momentum from this offseason onto the field, Banire could be one of the more pleasant surprises in the class moving forward.

2029 Wheeling Park WR DJ Neal earned a spot among the Top 20 receivers after an encouraging season on their younger squad that showcased plenty of long-term potential. Neal projects well as a slot receiver thanks to his ability to make defenders miss in space and create separation with quick, decisive cuts. He has good speed and moves naturally with the ball in his hands. The flashes were there throughout his freshman film, and additional strength should only help him become a more complete player. With continued growth and experience, Neal has the skill set to work his way into a varsity role for the Patriots in the coming seasons.
