2027 Defenders On The Rise

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Deep dive into the 2027 defensive prospects that have seen their recruiting stock on the rise this spring.</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Long 6'3” 180 lb. frame with the wide skillset that makes him recruitable at multiple positions. Operated primarily as a boundary corner during the 2025 season but given his measurements and style of play he could transition smoothly to a safety at the college level. Demonstrates a high IQ in coverage being able to recognize route concepts and anticipate ball location. This puts him in good position to make plays on the ball and disrupt receivers at the catch point, totaled five interceptions as a junior with five additional PBU's. Strong tackler that works downhill to close space and secure ball carriers in the open field. Not afraid to initiate contact and wraps up to the ground. Demonstrates clean footwork throughout his back pedal and transition. He times out his break well and keeps good pad level to change directions and accelerate coming out of the break. That acceleration allows him to recover and close separation with the ball in the air. Projects well as a safety where he can use his quick diagnosis ability to read run/pass and fly to the football. Violent at the contact point, he initiates contact with strength and power to finish ball carries to the ground aggressively. Missed his junior season but is an under the radar sleeper going into the 2026 season. His movement/footwork is controlled and efficient limiting wasted steps in coverage and run support. Quick to diagnose he makes decisive reads and triggers to disrupt plays before they can develop, finished the 2025 season with 10 tackles for loss. He's a plus athlete that can run and stay attached in coverage to close throwing lanes and play the ball at the catch point. The 6'2” 190 lb. strong safety shows positional versatility and three down ability to be an effective playmaker against both the run and pass. He can play down on the edge of box or drop into deep coverage using strong instincts and good eye discipline to anticipate play location. He shows good reactionary quickness bursting out of his break to meet ball carriers and receivers at the intersect point with speed. Brings heavy force as a tackler running his feet through contact. Plays primarily as a stand up DE that can effectively collapse the pocket as a pass rusher or set the edge on perimeter plays. He's a force on the LOS and a tough block given his strength and ability to lock out opponents while holding his ground. He's active with his hands to disengage from blockers and use his athleticism to navigate traffic in pursuit. Flashes plus lateral agility to redirect to the ball. Does a good job staying square and is tough to break once he gets his hands on the ball carrier as a tackler. Finished the 2025 season with 53 total tackles (24 solo) with 12 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
