As with every rankings update, some of the biggest stories come from the players who made the largest jumps. Strong film, continued physical development, standout camp performances, and growing recruiting attention all played a role in reshaping parts of the defensive board this cycle. Earning a rise in the rankings takes consistent progress, and these prospects did exactly that over the past several months. Here are the defensive players who saw the biggest increase in the latest 2027 rankings update as they head toward their senior seasons.

2027 Williamstown DL Christian Hoosier made one of the biggest climbs among defensive prospects in this update and now checks in as the #2 defensive lineman in the class. A fresh look at his junior film made it clear he was due for a bump after the season he put together. Hoosier combines strength, physicality, and explosive movement ability in a way that consistently shows up on tape. With his junior film now getting the attention it deserves, Hoosier should be a name that college programs are looking at closely this fall.

2027 Greenbrier East LB Keshawn Bland is one of the more overlooked prospects in the 2027 class, largely because he has stayed out of the spotlight. Limited film availability over the years and little to no presence on social media have made him easy to miss, but the talent is there. Bland brings a strong 6'2 220 frame along with the athleticism college programs look for at linebacker, and his physical tools stack up well with many of the top players at the position in the state. It's difficult to gauge where his recruitment stands right now, but he is the type of prospect college coaches should make a point to evaluate this season.

2027 Bluefield LB Chadney Stanback was our preseason breakout pick for the Beavers, and the offseason has already started validating that projection. After missing some time due to injury last season, Stanback has continued developing into one of the better linebacker prospects in the 2027 class. His recent offer from Glenville State is a good sign that college programs are beginning to take notice of what he brings to the field. Stanback has quality size and athleticism, with still plenty of room to grow. If he stays healthy and puts together the season he's capable of, more offers should be on the way.

2027 Bridgeport EDGE/TE Brody Jeran made a position switch in the rankings this cycle, moving from tight end to edge rusher after a closer look at his long-term projection. The athleticism that made him an intriguing offensive prospect translates just as well on the defensive side of the ball, where his 6'3 frame and movement ability create plenty of upside. Jeran could ultimately be an outside linebacker at the next level, but there is also room to continue adding weight and develop as a stand-up edge defender. His versatility remains one of his biggest strengths, and the tools are there for a big senior season. Glenville State has already gotten involved with an offer, and more college programs should be paying attention this fall.

2027 South Charleston DB David Hill has been one of the most consistent cornerback prospects in the class for several years, and this update reflects that with a move up to the #3 defensive back spot in the rankings. While size has been a question mark in evaluations, his play on the field continues to outweigh those concerns. Hill is a natural cover corner with great instincts, fluidity, and the ability to stay attached throughout routes, making him a difficult player to throw against. College programs have taken notice heading into his senior season, with offers from Concord, Charleston, WV Wesleyan, WV State, and others already on the board.

2027 George Washington DB Demajaih Spencer continues to climb after a breakout junior season and a strong offseason on the camp circuit. Spencer earned DB MVP honors at our recent Exposure Series event, showcasing the athleticism and coverage skills that have made him one of the fastest-rising defensive backs in the state. His recruiting profile has grown alongside his play, with offers from WV Wesleyan, WV State, and Fairmont State already in hand. Spencer has steadily worked his way up the rankings over the past year and now sits as the #7 DB in the 2027 class. With his confidence and momentum continuing to build, he looks poised for another big season in George Washington's secondary.

2027 Morgantown DL Chase Travis has put together one of the strongest offseasons of any defensive lineman in the state. After earning DL MVP honors at our Exposure Series event, Travis added offers from WV Wesleyan, Glenville State, Fairmont State, and West Liberty as college programs continue to evaluate his game. He may not fit the prototype from a size standpoint, but Travis is a great reminder that there is more than one way to win in the trenches. His technique, leverage, and relentless motor consistently show up on film and in person, which allows him to play bigger than his measurements. Those traits helped him make a significant jump in the rankings and should continue serving him well heading into his senior season.

2027 Elkins DL Owen Stanley made a notable climb in the rankings after a second look at his junior film highlighted just how disruptive he can be in the middle of a defense. At 6'3 290, Stanley brings a combination of size and power that is difficult to find, and those traits consistently show up on tape. He does a good job of occupying blockers, creating congestion at the line of scrimmage, and making life difficult for opposing offenses. Stanley also offers intriguing two-way value, with the frame and physicality to project on either side of the line. The size alone will attract college attention, but his upside as a developing lineman is what makes him an even more interesting prospect heading into his senior season.

2027 Shady Spring LB Blake Snodgrass earned a bump in the rankings after updated film and growing college interest provided a clearer picture of his long-term projection. Adding linebacker clips alongside his running back highlights was an important piece of the evaluation process, as linebacker appears to be where his future is brightest. Snodgrass has the size and athleticism that colleges look for at the position and continues to develop into a more complete defender. Offers from Glenville State and WV State have already arrived, and his recruitment will continue to grow. With a strong senior season, Snodgrass has the tools to continue climbing among the top linebackers in the 2027 class.

2027 Hedgesville EDGE Jordan Burch made a move up the rankings after another review of his junior film revealed a prospect we felt deserved more recognition. Playing at a program that often flies under the radar statewide, Burch has not received the same level of attention as some of his peers, but the traits are there. He brings a good frame, athletic ability, and flashes on tape that suggest there is still plenty of untapped potential. Burch is the type of prospect college coaches like to discover during the senior season because the physical tools are already in place. As more programs get eyes on his film, expect D2 and D3 schools to show increasing interest.
