On Saturday, May 16 I was graciously invited back for (at least) the fourth year in a row by Coach Nick Pennisi, as he hosted his annual PSR Big Showcase. As usual, Pennisi's event has become the premier privately ran camp in the state. My reasoning and justification for this is simple: PSR Big Camps offers maximum exposure for prospects by offering staggered, sequential competition opportunities for aspiring athletes in front of the largest crowd of college coaches, Mega Camps withstanding.

Due to an unfortunately scheduling conflict because of a date change, I regrettably missed the vast majority of the quarterback, receiver, and defensive back session. As such, I only have limited notes on those position groups. However, I was present for the duration of the lineman and running back vs. linebacker segment of the event.

In the little bit that I caught of [player_tooltip player_id='870208' first='Khazhon' last='Blake'], I thought that for a rising senior he had some maturing to do. I saw Blake get beat, which he clearly knew was the case, when defending at corner. Rather than competing through the play, Blake elected to give up on that play. Not a good decision on his part - especially given the number of college coaches present.

The one clip I saw of [player_tooltip player_id='1716735' first='Tyrell' last='Ford']'s was simply outstanding. Ford stuck like glue to his matchup, while showing a surprising degree of physicality. What allowed Ford to be so competitive during this rep was the fact that he got a really good break on the ball. Moreover, he allowed absolutely no space and no separation, while contesting and attacking the ball for the entirety of the rep.

Our first quarterback on the day was [player_tooltip player_id='1683787' first='Michael' last='Griffin Jr']. The only rep that I saw of his was a tough one. Throwing into the wind, Griffin uncorked a duck that died in the wind and did not get close to his intended target. To clean this up, I would suggest Griffin stride into his throws, while focusing on his lower half mechanics and how the ball rolls off of his hand/fingers. Doing so ought to help support Griffin perform in the elements.

Taleem Tripps showcased his football IQ in this one. Utilizing a head fake to work try to pry away from the defender, there was not much separation created atop his route. As a result, Tripps did a great job of returning back to the ball as it was thrown to secure the catch, making his life easier in the process as he did not have to compete for the ball in a tight window.

Coming down from Bergen County was Claude Andrews III. Andrews, who has still yet to finish his freshman year of high school, showed that he is an aggressive defensive back who wishes to exhort his will onto his opponent. After an outstanding jam in press coverage, his matchup eventually got into his route. From there I thought Andrews as a bit overly handsy. As his game develops and he gains more confidence through reps, I anticipate this tendency to be tamed.
