JD's 1st Team All-Camp NY: Defense

Defense, defense, defense. I have never been so impressed with a camp's output at all three levels before. The defenders in attendance at the NY Exposure Series showed up and did not take their foot off of the pedal until the event was finished. This was another tough article to write, as there were multiple players in each position group vying for my 1st Team All-Camp honors. However, a decision had to be made, and these are the four that came out on top.    D'Angelo Dixon is an all-purpose defensive lineman who was one of the more impressive trench players at the event. D'Angelo fired off the line with a strong, low burst that immediately put offensive linemen on their heels. He did an excellent job staying low while bending around the edge to apply pressure. What stood out most was the violence and strength in his hands. Dixon consistently swatted away blocker's hands with powerful “bear claws” that made it difficult for linemen to stay attached. With his motor, leverage, and natural power, he looked like a very impressive prospect with the tools to continue developing at a high level.     [player_tooltip player_id='2174592' first='Mycul' last='Glover'] earned my 1st Team All-Camp honors as a linebacker after putting together one of the most complete defensive performances of the event. With a bigger, physical frame, he still moved like a highly dynamic athlete, showing impressive change of direction and the ability to quickly regain speed moving back upfield. What stood out most was his instincts in coverage, particularly how well he anticipated running backs coming out of the backfield and positioned himself to disrupt plays before they developed. Mycul's combination of athleticism and versatility drew plenty of praise from coaches in attendance, and he clearly established himself as one of the top defensive prospects at the camp.     Although Daniel arrived at the event listed as a tight end, he quickly turned heads once he started getting reps as an edge rusher alongside the defensive line group. Built with a strong lower body and sturdy frame, he showed the physical tools to hold up in the trenches while also bringing impressive quickness off the edge. From the moment drills began, he consistently attacked offensive linemen with urgency, making an immediate impact and quickly earning attention from coaches and scouts. Daniel's burst and physicality created problems for blockers throughout the day, and his natural ability rushing the passer suggests there may be significant upside for him on the defensive side of the ball.     When Chiel first stepped onto the field, you would have thought he was a wide receiver based on his dimensions and how effortlessly he moved. Traveling up from Georgia, he immediately made an impression on scouts and coaches. Simply put, he moved differently than everyone else in attendance. In my eyes, he was the best defender at the event by a wide margin, consistently shutting down opposing receivers throughout the day. No receiver was able to shake him off their route, as he stayed glued to the hip in coverage and competed at an elite level during every rep. Whether it was Chiel's footwork, instincts, or ability to mirror routes, he looked dominant from start to finish.
