On multiple occasions Heffern was able to sneak out of the backdoor for large gains in play action. Meanwhile, he moves with quickness and a smoothness in his routes. Nevertheless, the YAC and route-running ability to get open were strong. He is capable of creating separation and producing space. As a pass-catcher, he has strong hands and the ability to secure the ball away from his body. Reliable catch radius in contested situations. By the same token, he can be used in a variety of ways, including the Y, Z, or H.
