2028 Rankings Update 3.0: ATH

As we near the end of the month of April, the 2026 high school football offseason is in full force and we are in the midst of a new round of Prep Redzone rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. The latest class to get an update is the class of 2028, with our new Top 125 dropping last week. Now that these rankings have been released, I have been taking some time to break them down by position. After already covering the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, here are our top ATH in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky who make an impact at multiple positions.    [player_tooltip player_id='1638833' first='Brady' last='Couch'] unfortunately missed most of his sophomore season due to injury but he has still shown enough to stay as the top ranked ATH in the state in his class. Couch is a very reliable deep threat at receiver as he has the speed to run by opposing defensive backs with ease along with the athleticism to attack passes at the highest point to win in jump ball situations. He has also shown the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Couch has also proven to be a very reliable corner on defense. Brady currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky and Delaware State, and I expect a lot of eyes to be on him as he returns to the field for his junior year.     [player_tooltip player_id='2128653' first='Cortez' last='Ricketts'] Jr is a player who has been attracting some attention this offseason. Ricketts is a very skilled receiver who uses his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs with ease in the deep passing game. He is also very impressive after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to pick up extra yards. As a sophomore at Valley, Ricketts caught seven passes for 61 yards and a touchdown in eight games. He also threw three touchdown passes, returned one kickoff for a touchdown, and recorded 12 tackles and a tackle for loss this past season. Ricketts currently holds offers from Bowling Green State and Campbellsville, and he will be an intriguing prospect to watch this season after transferring to Eminence.     [player_tooltip player_id='1654083' first='Amere' last='Jones'] is a player who truly stood out to me when breaking down sophomore year film. On offense, he lines up at receiver where he is very dangerous in the open field after the catch. He has explosive speed and has also shown the ability to make defenders miss with ease, which makes him a threat to turn short passes into a big gain at any given moment. Jones is also a skilled route runner, using smooth breaks to create easy separation. Amere finished his sophomore year at Valley with 22 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in six games. He also returned a punt for a touchdown and made an impact on defense, recording 17 tackles and two interceptions. Jones holds an offer from Grambling State and I'm eager to see how he progresses moving forward after transferring to Eminence for his junior year.     [player_tooltip player_id='1042321' first='Jeremiah' last='Burbage'] is another player who had a strong sophomore season. On defense, he lined up at corner where he was very impressive in man coverage. He does a great job of opening up and using his speed to mirror opposing receivers' routes with ease. When the ball is thrown his way, he does a great job of reacting with perfect timing to make a play on the ball, breaking up 15 passes in 14 games this past season. He also recorded 24 tackles and made an impact on offense at receiver, catching 13 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremiah holds an offer from Grambling State and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way soon.     To wrap up our top five ATH in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='951327' first='Nash' last='Whelan']. Whelan stepped in at quarterback this season where he had a strong year as a passer, showing impressive arm strength and accuracy. As a sophomore, he completed 170/259 passes for 2,526 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 15 games. He also showed tremendous dual threat ability, leading his team in rushing with 156 carries for 1,047 yards and 16 touchdowns. Nash also made an impact on defense as a defensive back, finishing the year with 41 tackles, six tackles for loss, and an interception. Whelan has received some college interest and I expect his recruitment to continue to heat up heading into his junior year.
