On Wednesday, Conner Smith and myself from Prep Redzone Tennessee took in a spring practice of an ascending Rockvale football program that has plenty of firepower.

As the school enters year two under the leadership of head coach James Counce, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the direction of the program. There is a strong veteran nucleus in place with one of the better young cores in the mid-state regardless of classification.

That should equate to a nice blend of experience and talent this season, offering a high ceiling for the team in 2026.

OFFENSE

The offense will lose some key pieces from last season such as starting quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1207773' first='Jonathan' last='Hamby'] and star receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1219648' first='Rayene' last='Chiha'] graduate from the program, but the rest of the core returns to build on what the last year started and it has added a healthy mix of new juice with young standouts and transfers.

2029 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1553521' first='Arden' last='Lewis'] is a game-changing athlete that will offer an exciting dual-threat presence at quarterback at an early age. He is a dynamic athlete with excellent football intelligence, having earned the trust of the coaching staff already. It will be interesting to see how he can handle the physical and mental workload on the varsity level, but the talent is there and his legs will give him a solid floor.

Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='1567089' first='Jamarcus' last='Brown'] will lead the offense behind his bulldozing rushing style, but he has reached a new level of explosiveness now that he is healthy. He will be a reliable anchor of an offense that will feature a young quarterback. Brown will be relied on heavily and is someone the coaching staff is ready to utilize on Friday nights.

There are a handful of solid options at receiver, but the biggest question will be who steps into the role of being the top target each week. The group will have a good tight end room to help ease the workload, led by two-way standout [player_tooltip player_id='1675717' first='Dallas' last='Pauldo'].

The identity of this team next season is going to be running the football and the offensive line will be a massive part of that (literally) under new OL coach/run game coordinator James Wolff, who was excellent at Page.

There is a new energy with the trenches within the program and there is plenty of functional size on the roster. 2028 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1588114' first='Caiden' last='Pyrdum'] will only add to that after transferring in. He will join prospects such as Ahmad Hamdulla to create a massive and physical front. The tackle positions will be interesting to monitor as they develop, but again they have good bodies and great coaching to work with.

DEFENSE

The defensive side of the ball has more proven production from front to back, but they have plenty of exciting young talent in their own right, creating a solid unit that will get better as the year progresses.

It will certainly be led by the front along the line of scrimmage where the team boasts plenty of future Division One talent. [player_tooltip player_id='1675717' first='Dallas' last='Pauldo'] has freakishly good tools with the ability to win anywhere along the defensive line at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. The emergence of [player_tooltip player_id='1815536' first='Jayden' last='Agberodiola'] as a nose tackle last season helped free him up to be used along the line and his massive partner in crime will only continue to improve with more experience and coaching. This will be a tough assignment for any offensive line in the state next season.

Did I mention 2029 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1648774' first='Clayton' last='Jackson'] yet? Oh yeah, he will add another element to the front with a strong and lengthy frame at defensive end that can disrupt plays off the edge. Pauldo told me that the step forward Jackson has made has been huge for the competitiveness of the unit as he believes he can fill in anywhere and maintain a high level of play.

The Rockets have plenty of linebackers and they play in an aggressive manner that capitalizes off the work their defensive line does up front, making a handful of splash plays during the practice.

[player_tooltip player_id='2101048' first='Kingston' last='McQueen'] is going to be the leader of the secondary and has the versatility to handle any responsibility on the back end of the defense. He has a very strong build at six-foot and 190 pounds that is going to be tough for receivers to work through. He showed that physicality in addition to good athleticism and ball skills during the day and will help bring a different mindset to the group.

[player_tooltip player_id='1662944' first='Dallas' last='Johnson'] will be an impact player at cornerback with impressive length and athleticism, helping maintain that identity on the back end to complement the front seven.
